It’s not too far from Sydney and being a regional town, if they start winning, locals jump on board quick - similar to Perth with a new NRL team. That, to me, seems plainly obvious.

Yeah - I think that is the logical spot to be honest. Having family in the area - who coaches his sons Aussie Rules team - I can conform a decent grassroots exists - but even if it didn't, if there was nothing - that would be even more a reason to lay down roots there and grow the game. Same as in Western Sydney - and for the NRL to put a team in Perth. No point expanding to an area where the game is already popular - little growth in that I feel.

outside of Newcastle going up the North Coast, Population centres are too spread out, and are marginal for Growth of a Footy Team
Unless it was Based in Newcastle (you could get Central Coast to south and north to Port Macquarie)

WA premier says NRL expansion talks are now 'positive'

Western Australia's premier has offered renewed hope of salvaging the Perth Bears concept, describing the last-ditch talks with the NRL as "positive".

Premier Roger Cook was a keen observer at the Optus Stadium double-header on Saturday, addressing club officials and sitting in the crowd for the two matches.

A crowd of 31,437 was announced at halftime of the second game, perhaps showing some fans had delivered on the threat of boycotting out of frustration.

But publicly Cook has had a change of tune.

It was only last Saturday that he accused the NRL of treating his state like a "cash cow", with an estimated $65 million gap in funding talks.

Cook is now hopeful the proposed franchise can be saved, with both parties returning to the table in recent days.

We've made our position to the NRL very clear, and that is any deal must deliver value for WA taxpayers," Cook said in a statement.

"Since then, we've had some positive discussions, and those discussions are ongoing.

"We won't be making any further comment until those discussions conclude."

The Dolphins will also host Newcastle at HBF Park in Perth in June

I don’t think it mattered who was playing in the double header - there would be very few who follow an nrl team let alone heard of one in Perth. If you followed nrl you’d probably be going - it was there being a game rather than who was playing.

Where’s in Sydney you have a large Aussie rules following - massive compared to Perth - also a large AFL footprint also comparatively re: media and following. Which is fine - the whole reason of going to Perth for nrl is to grow the game - make it national - no point going to somewhere where the game is already popular. Same reason for having giants in western sydney.

and i guarantee you the locals who would turn out for a FREO v PORT clash in Sydney would be low

NRL will expand in South West of BRISBANE down the track, they will be going where the FISH are WHY
because its a huge Area with no team that would be an instant success
