The AFL didn't make any money from there Chinese experiment infact they lost money. This was revealed on one of the Big Footy shows. The other bubble dwellers on the panel couldn't belief what they were hearing....'But, But. But

It was also revealed that the Victorian government was responsible for most of the funding.

I think this will take the the crown for biggest sporting flop of 2018. The previous AFL match in China won this comprehensively last year.
But this year AFLX is some tough competition, which was also a huge flop.

Funny thing is most AFL fans on forums ,social media etc were taking the piss out of Gill & the outright lie about the crowd ..

IMO a fair few didnt go because it was raining during the game, plus there was no cover in the stands so people didnt take their seats. It makes no sense to lie about a sellout prior to the game because all it does is stop more fans from turning up on the day

You don't seem to get it pal. It's actually very, very simple. They sold about 5k tickets to Port & Suns supporters who flew over. They then gave away the rest to locals who they hoped would turn up. As they had distributed all tickets, sold & given away, they announced they had 'sold out' the game. BS of course.

Then on game day the 5k locals didn't turn up ......same as last year. Problem solved!!!!!
