They played their last game 29 August, 1914. Those who returned at the end of the war were broken men. That wasn't a failure. That was a tragedy, and would have been for any football club.

You and I cannot imagine the impact of the loss of so many young lives on the fledgling country Australia was then. Think of all the families that didn't happen because the men didn't come home.

I think Brisbane Lions growing out of the sick Bears and migrating Fitzroy Lions is now a success story.

South Melbourne winged into Sydney late 1981, ruffled a lot of local feathers, attracted scorn from detractors like the leaguies here, then went on to become the biggest football club in NSW. That's a success.

And if the Balmain Tigers/Wests Magpies pas de deux eventually has a strong outcome, that will be a success, too.

The NRL hasn't got a $2,000,000,000 media right deal, Raider.

The current deal is only worth $925m with 100m in contra advertising value tacked on.

And even if the NRL had a $2,000,000,000 media rights deal now, or in the future, IT WON'T GET A NEW STADIUM BUILT.

It's crowds at games, BIG crowds at games, that gets a new stadium built.
