My dear fellow AFL supporting members. We must now come together as one and acknowledge that the AFL will not fill stadium australia in our, our children, and our children's children's lifetime.

It's sad, very sad...but true. Please, let's acknowledge this and talk about how it makes us all feel.

Me personally, well it makes me feel sad and I get this sorta...empty feeling... pardon the pun.
well out side of a GF or SOO game the NRL has never filled ANZ stadium either :(/
:)))

Rugby League has sold out every major stadium in NSW many times, AFL have never filled any stadium to capacity in NSW, ever. same as QLD.
the only reason why the NRL has ever sold out ANZ is for SOO & the GF same goes for the SFS
out side of those the NRL struggles to fill even half the grounds :(/

the swans have sold out the SCG
the lions have sold out the Gabba

No they haven't, both teams have never played capacity.

Rugby League holds the records at both grounds you ding dong.

A sleeping giant has to have been an awake giant at one stage of its life, can you tell me when the sleeping giant was ever awake in Australia?

That's a good boy.

Oh, and soccer may have had two decent crowds last year, but it was still well over, and I mean well over a million behind the NRL, and that's with all the sokka thrown in and not mentioning any other RL outside the NRL itself.

Derp!

what rugby league outside of the NRL? The world cup? LOL! canadian arm curling championships got more media attention and better tv ratings than that backwater rubbish!

I could show you where soccer out here is out rated on pay TV by non sports shows on Pay TV at the same time, dickhead.

That's never ever happened to NRL or AFL, it's happened to sokka and union tho

Cause it's a pissy little sport out here above under12's you blouse, that's why it's got no crowds and no ratings and no money.

Old Frank Lowy ain't gonna live forever.

no crowds yet every australian based a-league club has superior attendances than the raiders, even my own club has the third highest avg attendance in this city after the swans and souths :)

no ratings yet the socceroos are our most watched international sports team!

no money yet a-league clubs like SFC, City, and the roar are bankrolled by billionaires who pour money into the clubs helping build the foundations for the future! how else do you think we came up with the money for del piero? an NRL club would cut itself at the neck if it tried paying a player $4 million a season but it was nothing but a piece of piss for my club

Crowds have been on an upward trend for 3 straight years! when lowy step downs another competent person will step in his place - and either way, david gallop is the man at the reigns. he knows your awful sport back to front and has been a huge breathe of fresh air since he jumped onboard. i only envision great things for the future with the FFA cup going on, a-league about to start and then the Asian Cup in January. Huge year for soccer baby!

Maybe the "Sleeping Giant" should move back to winter & take on the other codes.
LOL.
They moved to summer & got absolutely smashed by BBL Cricket.

Where can they go now.?

Rugby League will add another fullhouse in October with its Grand Final & remain the only football code to have filled major stadia in Sydney in 2014
Cricket being the only other sport with the ashes test in January
these 2 being Sydney & NSW's only sports that matter really

Keep clinging on to your delusions derpman. The real test of support is not one off events, it's decent following week in week out, hail or shine, win or lose.

This is where the NRL struggles more than any other sport in Australia

Thanks for the update dave. It's quite enlightening stuff really and just goes to show the low level of support for the other codes in this wonderful city. I think tho ur overestimating swans support at 30k and underestimating the AFL as a novelty freak show in sydney. I'd say there's about 5k or more different folk each fortnight who turn up to see something different, weird, odd, out of the norm, somewhat like a circus act, something which they've not some before and will likely not do again for the next 5 years.

The swans cwowd are renowned for their lack of knowledge and general understanding of the game dave. We got 5 million people here and many have a curious and self important nature. They wanna try it out so they can say "been there, done that" and show off at work on Monday morn.

So essentially I'd be dropping the swans avg real crowd/support to about 16k.
