SOO 1.2 & 3 were the top 3 rating sports shows..
In fact RL had 4 out of the top 5 .

SOO isnt the NRL. Its a quality event, but its a separate event. Let's be honest, the bandwagon factor is massive. The hype is primarily about prIde between NSW and QLD, not even sport specifically

It is all one sport .The ARLC sell SOO as part of our package..

SOO is similar to the Olympics or the soccer WC. It gets a huge following from people who normally don't pay any attention. Come the Olympics athletics or swimming are suddenly the most popular sports in Australia. It isnt about athletics, its about the event, country v country on that sports biggest stage. SOO is similar, suddenly breakfast TV hosts are all NSW or QLD RL supporters for a week, where as normally theyre apathetic. Same in Victoria. Many tune in just to see if the underdog state QLD will beat the larger state NSW. The rivalry is the interest.

But yeah, its a big positive for RL in Australia but compromises your season also. The AFL had SOO but found club footy more important, and the potential to negatively affect club footy meant it wasnt worth it.

I asked a work colleague who is a mad broncos fan what she would prefer, the broncos winning the premiership or qld winning SOO. She said SOO. There in lays the issue I think.

That is a disconcerting result. The NRL should be taking that on board and work harder to promote the game in Adelaide, and indeed in Perth as that result isn't good either. By GEM standards, Melbourne's rating isn't too bad even though it could be better.

There is only the ARLC Now.


The ARL Commission will stick with the same formula for their representative schedule in 2014 despite calls to reduce the length of the State of Origin period due to player burnout fears.



The NRL released the schedule for next year's representative fixtures on Monday, with the State of Origin series kicking off with Queensland hosting NSW at Suncorp Stadium on May 28.
