if 200K people in the Nthn States ... both on pay & FTA bothered to watch this sham of a game on TV last year .... I'd be surprised
for unlike the dopes south of the border .... they have respect for our ANZACS =D> =D> =D>

& now ...with the Sydney NRL game being on FTA from now on... I'd expect it to get 1.5 Million veiwers on FTA nationally
maybe more

& of course .... 1.8 Million watch our ANZAC test nationally each year
our ANZAC matches >>>>>> the VFL's AAC ... pale imitation.
but but but

AFls ANZAC day game beats every NRL home and away game by a massive margin. AFL respect ANZAC day. RL fans :-k

the VFL doesn't have an ANZAC game ..... it has a sham if thats what you're talking about ?

& anyway
our actual.. real.... most bona fide ANZAC game ... our Test against the kiwis .. attracted 1.8 Million
bigger then anything the VFL can muster up
Wow, how many people at this game? 80, 90k?

AFLs ANZAC day game is a massive event where players and fans turnout in huge numbers to pay respect to the ANZACS.

ARL, NRL......amateur hour..

no wonder half of our country has ZERO interest in this disgrace .. this national embarrasment

no... the smarter half of our nation turns their attention to REAL ANZAC day commemorations ... including authentic sporting events only

Whether the AFLs ANZAC day is authentic is an opinion and irrelevant given its an attitude. Fans and players turnout to pay respect the the ANZACS. War heroes are invited and parade. A minutes silence is held. Many official ceremonies are included.

The fans turnout in massive numbers and believe they are paying respect. That's what matters.

Not some false impression including a few players from NZ makes the difference. It doesn't, especially when few fans turn out.

Including NZ is irrelevant. They have their own ceremonies many of which don't include Australia. What's important is that the ANZACs are remembered and honoured. And the AFL do an amazing job with a huge response. The NRL and their fans clearly aren't that interested. [-(

the VFL's game on 25th of April is irrelevant
it is not an ANZAC game ... it can't be

the only sports that commemorate this day properly are Rugby League & ... sometimes Rugby Union ( when it falls on a weekend)
Victorian rules desperate attempt to overcome its very obvious lack of internationalism is .. lame & pathetic & needs to be called what it is .. a sham.

The fact that the VFL is running off to NZ .. to play a game this year on ANZAC day in Wellington .. shows they are now also very aware of the short comings of their attempts to show respect to this day without including NZ... you can't do it
they now know this ...
so are trying to fix it as best they can ..... this demonstrates I am right
but... why would that be a surprise to anyone

Wrong. There is nothing written to say that ANY event needs members from both countries to be considered an ANZAC day event. Unless of course you have evidence to the contrary. However I've asked for this before and youve failed like the Dave you are.

All an ANZAC day event needs is people who are prepared to remember and honour the ANZACs. Having some of the ANZAC day veterans also helps. The AFL have both in significant numbers. =D>

Shame the NRLs attempts a ignored by most, even their own fans. Seems like adding NZ players adds little to the authenticity of the event. Otherwise fans may actually turnout. [-(

So youve avoided the question again... What a surprise.

The fact the AFL are playing a game in NZ has no bearing on the authenticity of an ANZAC day event without both countries involved. [-X all it is is an opportunity for expansion

Its an opportunity.

Anyway, any evidence showing an Anzac Day event must, have both countries involved? :-k

evidence

the VFL ... rushing ova to NZ mainly because they didn't have any NZ involvment on April 25th & they now know this is essential
to be even half authentic

yep... all the evidence right there

Or alternatively it could be the AFL using a convenient day to promote their game. That's not official evidence Dave. Surely you have some.......

During the 1920s ANZAC Day became established as a national day of commemoration for the 60,000 Australians who had died during the war. In 1927, for the first time every state observed some form of public holiday on ANZAC Day. By the mid-1930s, all the rituals we now associate with the day – dawn vigils, marches, memorial services, reunions, two-up games – were firmly established as part of ANZAC Day culture.

With the coming of the Second World War, ANZAC Day also served to commemorate the lives of Australians who died in that war. In subsequent years the meaning of the day has been further broadened to include Australians killed in all the military operations in which Australia has been involved.

ANZAC Day was first commemorated at the Memorial in 1942. There were government orders prohibiting large public gatherings in case of a Japanese air attack, so it was a small occasion, with neither a march nor a memorial service. Since then, ANZAC Day has been commemorated at the Memorial every year.

Seems as though even an official Australian government site doesn't feel it necessary to mention New Zealand in their description of the history of Australian ANZAC day commemorations.

This site is run by the Australian War Memorial and is based in NSW

Stop digging yourself into a deeper hole Raiderdave. Seriously stop disrespecting our diggers and get over the fact that the AFL's ANZAC Day game is twice as big as anything that poor man's rugby can dish up.

When was the last time the Warriors hosted a game on ANZAC Day by the way? Or have the nRL just used them to prop up the ailing Storm for all these years on ANZAC Day?
