Um, no, North Melbourne vs Sydney (1996) and Sydney vs West Coast (2005) and (2006) top that.
The Western Bulldogs' victory in the 2016 Toyota AFL Grand Final over the Sydney Swans was the fourth most-watched game in VFL/AFL history.
The Dogs' 22-point victory saw a combined metro and regional average of 4.089 million viewers on the Seven Network, up 16 per cent on last year's Hawthorn v West Coast decider.
This placed the match behind only the 1996 (4.4 million, NMelb v Sydney); 2005 (4.4 million, Sydney v West Coast) and 2006 (4.15 million, West Coast v Sydney) Grand Finals.

where are these figures from, there has been many more matches rate higher
The SOO of figures are wrong> both do not have Perth Figures..
There has been a few games over the 4mill mark for Rugby League>>
I even recall the 2005 NRL G.F being around that too.. and a few other SOO and G.F
Correct Leeroy. Mr TV just made it up. When he got called out he admitted it and said he was in a hurry lolololololololol. Typical AFL fanboy.........he makes shit up after origin due to his annual SOO meltdown. Thanfully the punters were straight onto him and he even admitted it lolololol!!!!!!
For the correct record: SOO 3 2013 & SOO 2 2014 both out rated Mr TV's offering. As did other programs.
ok, well there ya go.. thought it looked quite wrong...
with Origin games rating 4.2 and 4.16 (for Origin)
anyone know the highest rating NRL G.F
i always thought it was 2005 G.F ???
AFL continues to hold the record for the biggest tv audiences. Always with Sydney involved.

Wow, imagine what the 1996, 2005 and 2006 AFL Grand Finals peak audiences were. 91.2 per cent of the Australian population tuning in.
Truly amazing.
AFL - Australia's Game
Channel Seven's Grand Final coverage reached more than 6.5 million combined in-home viewers across the day-long telecast.
The siren-to-siren telecast peaked at 5.160 million viewers, which was the highest metropolitan audience for a Grand Final since 2006.
In Sydney alone the audience peaked at 705,000.
According to OzTam ratings, 91.2 per cent of people who had their televisions on were tuned into the game.

Indeed.
Talk of further expansion with a Tasmanian team too. Should just relocate North Melbourne to Tasmania I reckon.

AFL 977k, NRL 731
19 FRIDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Gem, Channel 9 290,000 170,000 10,000 96,000 3,000 11,000
Another example showing how the NRL would NOT benefit from targeted games for the Titans, Cowboys, Raiders or Knights. Very low regional ratings despite the raiders playing and doing well
That excuse is dead and buried

The Canterbury Cup is averaging 33,000 this season, but this figure is significantly affected by the drop from Nine to GEM after Round 5 (ratings plunged 78% from a 46,000 average to 12,000 as it was replaced by Super Netball which averages 30,000 in Sydney since).
https://tvblackbox.com.au/page/2019/5/2 ... cket-looms
So the Canterbury cup ratings have dropped by a staggering 78% since moving to 9gem. Yet somehow these NRL morons think the AFL ratings aren't affected by being shown on 7mate
