If the NRL filled the new Perth side with foreign ready to go players in the short term I would agree with you. In my uneducated opinion in the long term, Perth will probabaly be similar to Melbourne in terms of its support (less population but more expats with some Ex-Reds Support). While I see the Suns and GWS growing support over the next 5-20 years into a similar fan base to what the Swans/Lions have now.

With such stellar ratings I can see why!

They don't have a team to support yet though

They'll have a small core of support no doubt. But with very few local grass roots comps and few local NRL players it wont be large thats for sure.

I still think they would be better supported then the AFL expansion clubs. They would also peform better on the field although that woulden't be hard

I gather you mean the second AFL clubs. Surely you're not suggesting they'll be better supported than the lions or swans!
Maybe you'll be right, but if another RL came to Melbourne they would get a crowd at all.

A single game v the recently established botoom placed second team in an expansion market.
Ratings of 2k for live NRL in Perth show the ongoing interest levels.

Fri TV #NRL 291k GEM (Syd 291k Mel 11k Bri 95k Ade 2k Per 5k) #NRLSYDSTI
This is why Channel 9 need to go.....next to no info on Nine for RL to be switched to gem. Without the forums i would have missed this game also.

Being on gem would have hurt the bottom line a lot. The Olympics I believe is affecting both winter footy codes at the moment. The AFL also had one of the best games for the year on 7 and it probably wont break 1 million viewers nationally.

pussycat shut down once the Perth ratings were posted and eelofwest now claiming the deal with Channel 9 announced this week is good for the game. Go figure.

RL has just proved it's #1 without even trying.
