3 big local derbies played last night:

NRL 20k and 17k #-o

AFL 50k

One AFL game has them both covered easily.

Those two NRL derbies are just a smidgeon above average.

The manly dogs clash was a sellout. Brookies capacity is currently reduced to 17k.

3 games of NRL today for a combined total of 45k. Collingwood v hawthorn almost doubled that on its own with 83k.

I wonder which code is leading? :-k

XMan, there no need to wonder that pretty little head of yours. Leagues well ahead and daylights second.

How do you explain the GWS getting 7k the other day? Even then they must of been counting feet!

League ahead?  of what? They lose every single measure! Crowds, tv ratings, media interest, revenue, memberships.....

7k is an expected crowd for a brand new second team in an expansion city, especially since they are getting pumped every week. the fans will come when they start winning. But consider the storm, who often get 9-12k as the only RL team in Melbourne, a sports loving city, and they win almost every week. #-o

Also consider that the giants play in Sydney which is the worst sports attending city in Australia. Remember, Sydney is supposed to be RL heartland yet Penrith only had 5.7k this year. Cronulla have also had games in the 8k range this year. 5 NRL games in Sydney last year recorded a smaller crowd than the giants game in question. RL heartland!

And don't start with fudged crowd figures. We all know which code excels at this don't we!

Well given 16k is only2/3rds full that figure looks perfect.

Why would a fudgy league fan question crowd figures from another code?

Looked an easy 16K to me. Damn that is the NRL average not bad for a team with 1 win on the board.

12k at Cronulla. 9k at penrith. 27k for the swans in Sydney despite limited public access due to SCG renovations.

Hmm NRL heartland!

A good weekly crowd for the AFL this week of about 325K despite games in Dawin (about 6K) and the Goldcoast (about 16K). Along with round 1 these two rounds have gotten more people through the turnstiles then any round in 2011 and only 2 rounds in 2010 beat this weeks record. Round 1 this year probabaly had the highest amount of people in the stands ever with 367792 people turning up to a game of AFL. I have checked through the records from 2012 back to 2000 and there has not be a week more popular. That is 1 in every 60 people in Australia turning up on that weekend to a game of Aussie rules. In terms of the people who deeply care about thier sport the spectators how can there be any doubt to what the most popular sport in Australia is.

The game isn't even in Perth yet there was 20K there last night. More than double what GWS could get.

A single game v the recently established botoom placed second team in an expansion market.

Ratings of 2k for live NRL in Perth show the ongoing interest levels.
