the question that needs to be asked..
KANGAS V LIONS >>>>
(who the hell would of watched this $hitty game if it was the only game in that timeslot.
PORT v SUNS (same as above)
the figures would of been CRAP
AFL do it smartly, with there scheduling,
It is the reason why it is done>>
if they could get bigger ratings to show the networks they would be doing it..
if these games were on their own there's no way they would have rated under 150k
ok, lets go through this again:
A single game on Saturday night between a Melbourne team and an Adelaide team would rate around 300k on FTA in Melbourne, 90k in Perth, 150k in Adelaide, 30k in Sydney and 20k in Brisbane. Add 250k for fox and 200k for regionals gives 1040k. Does anyone have any issues with these estimates?
If this game was played at the same time as a game between the Swans and Eagles the Perth FTA figures would be maybe 200k and the Sydney figures 70k. This game on fox would compete with the other game giving maybe 200k and 120k fox depending on which game was better.
These 2 games would therefore give a total audience of 1260k for prime time Saturday night. Unfortunately this would average on 630k per game, where as the single game would average 1040k per game.
The concurrent games may help the audience in each city but it destroys the average because it requires two games for moderate increase in total audience.
If you think this is wrong tell me why.............

Firstly, you've sold just one match on a Sat night. And that's what you get ratings for 1 not 2. Its only natural your going to get more rating if you have 2. And by doing it this way they do you get the most out of the 1 game that you've sold.
As for Averages you have 9 matches and that's that.
I chose 5 Melb v Adelaide matches at random.(Sat night) your Melbourne number is 50 or 60k short

Again
put PORT V SUNS in isolation at 7:30pm on Saturday night
and lets see how it rates..
Would rate very badly on national TV
That is why the AFL and broadcasters show 2 games.
into multiple markets.

Point is one match on fta would get nearly the same as two concurrent games, especially depending on who was playing. Concurrent games split the fix ratings though

I don't agree, If Adelaide where watching an Adelaide team vs Melbourne match they would get nearly twice the rating than if they were watching just two Melbourne teams

Yep this is the point he's avoiding .
What you lose in one area you pick up by having a team telecast in their home town .
It's why the AFL do it .

Lol your conspiracies and but buts are running rampant of course the locals want to see their local team play
As oppose to the nrlol playing one game at a time & broads casting it nationally in a more prime time viewing slot

Again it depends whos playing. A single AFL game with Crows and eagles playing could outrate 2 concurrent games with 2 Melbourne teams and qld and nsw. Furthermore, a poor matchup on FTA into perth (freo v suns) may rate lower than a blockbuster of crows v syd. Its too simplistic to say tarteging games to Melbourne perth and adelaide doubles their ratings. It may improve somewhat om average but splitting the fox audience costs at least 200k per ratongs period

As said... a Collingwood v Essendon game I think would rate higher than say a suns v free game on the Gold Coast same re Brisbane v freo in Brisbane

The NRL rated a dismal 194k in Sydney last night. It was outrated easily by the bachelor, a current affair, today tonight, and almost every channel's news. It only pipped home and away by 2k.
No wonder the NRL's ratings are nose diving. Their largest heartland prefers reality TV and Australian soapies.

No Sydney team. Same time as the Soceroos qualifier , 260k not a bad effort.
