Yes, AFL people seem more interested in that show then there matches - probably more exciting

Rugby League, the dominant force in Australian sport!

More shocking crowds for the NRL yesterday. 19k for the bulldogs v Souths, which are 2 of Sydney's most popular NRL teams. Some on LU were claiming this may draw 40k.
The other game was the raiders in front of 9k.
Meanwhile the AFL had 17k in Geelong, packed into the stands left during renovations. 16k in Tasmania. 31k in Perth, 43k in the rain at the MCG. 25k in the rain in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, RL have crowds here in Australia which put them up as the highest rugby comp on Earth, we'll have a good crowd in NZ today, in England the crowds are at record levels for the super league era and the frogs are renovating new stadiums because the crowds keep out growing them.
Now back to victardialand, bodies in Barrels state and the big western desert for the vFL.

This thread is about Australia's number one code. The evidence is damning isn't it? Especially when you feel the need to bring up the low levels of attendance at international RL leagues as a comparison.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Meanwhile, RL have crowds here in Australia which put them up as the highest rugby comp on Earth, we'll have a good crowd in NZ today, in England the crowds are at record levels for the super league era and the frogs are renovating new stadiums because the crowds keep out growing them.

What solice do you gain in that the pathetically low crowds of the nrl are actually the highest of the lows?ParraEelsNRL wrote:Meanwhile, RL have crowds here in Australia which put them up as the highest rugby comp on Earth,
What solice do you gain in that some people in NZ are watching an English sport?ParraEelsNRL wrote:we'll have a good crowd in NZ today

Is there actually anyone in England who gets excited by the English game ?
Apparently not - only a few Sydney-siders thirsty for someone to beat.
Now an AFL game in NZ for premiership points - that is exciting.
The Australian game being appreciated by the rest of the world.
.
Nice try Cos.

The AFLs average has been dropping because over the last two years more teams are now located outside its heartland and more games are now being played in expansion states than ever before. The number of games in Sydney, Brisbane and Tasmania has essentially double in the last 2 years.
Despite this they still average almost double the NRL. In fact the AFL had the highest attendance total ever last year, of over 7 million people. You could add all attendance for all the other Australian sports together and the AFL would still comfortably win!

Let's face it, which figures would most people prefer? The NRLs average of only 16k despite only 13 games played outside its heartland? Or the AFL with a total of around 50 games played outside its heartland but an average of almost double the NRL??

Hmmmm, that's a hard one...

You could also say that some of the drop off from the AFL is due to 3 live games this year on FTA compared to 0 last year. It will be interesting to see how the NRL crowds go next year if they get 3-4 live FTA games. I can imagine that with the trafic in Sydney this could greatly effect the crowd averages.

I think it is fair to say that league is a poor relative in every country it is played. It can not announce itself as the preeminent sport in any country. And please do you really want to argue attendance, revenue, participation or facilities.Stick to the ratings thread where at least you are competitive.League is owned by a TV network as are its most important clubs,AFL is owned by the people.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Bahahaha, yeah RL also has a Monday night game each week, now that's a crowd killer.

It could be worse. It could be live on FTA TV. This could potentially really kill the crowd.
Re: The No.1 Football Code In Australia
http://www.fairfieldchampion.com.au/new ... torypage=0But comparing the AFL's massive broadcast income with what the NRL considers to be its paltry revenue is to wrongly presume each code has equal billing in public popularity, says Mr Bryant. "There's the AFL and then daylight," he says, "and all revenue outcomes flow from that."
