I think there are things each code and sports copying from each other - and so they should if it is the better way to go. AFL expanding to QLD - not sure how that is copying when AFL (VFL as it was then) expanded to Sydney - a non traditional state. Also the final 8 Mcintyre system I believe is an AFL thing, I believe coaches sitting in the stands was something VFL coaches started copying from NSWRL too - and the AFL draft taken from Basketball and such in the states. If there is a good innovation in one sport it would be follish to not look at and adopt if appropriate I think.GlobalRugbyLeague wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2024 3:10 pmIf NRL is a success in Las Vegas, how long do you think it will take the AFL to do exactly the same thing?Beaussie wrote: Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:24 am10,000 tickets sold to the yanks at $19.00 each thus far.
Allegiant Stadium has a capacity of 65,000. To date, 27,000 tickets have been sold. About half of those have been to Australian fans embarking on the ultimate footy trip. A further 10,000 have been snapped up by Americans (prices start from $US19) and the rest have been taken up by other international travellers. A sellout is unlikely.
This is not the first time rugby league has attempted to gain a foothold in the United States. Promoter Jason Moore pulled off a coup when he successfully staged Major League Baseball matches between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks at the SCG in 2014. Four years later, he did his dough in the ill-fated Denver Test between England and New Zealand. A crowd of 19,320 witnessed the match at Mile High Stadium, half the number required for Moore to finish in the black.

Just like they did with copying the NRL by playing through COVID lockdowns and moving to QLd.
Also copying the NRL with Magic Round and starting gather round.
AFL will be watching the NRLs Las Vegas exhibition game very closely just like they did with Magic Round. 2025 Update.

If its the one Im thinking of in Nassau County , its just some temp stands being erected for the T20 world cup later this yearleeroy*NRL* wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2024 10:47 amVegas was a huge success for the NRL
I recan AFL will be looking very closely at the new Cricket stadium being built
IN NEW YORK Capacity 30k approx
AFL IN THE BIG CITY
NEW YORK 2027
the usual capacity of this ground is about 10K
Its not in New York city either its , 30 miles away in the burbs
New York ( city) was considered & rejected by the NRL because of the time difference for viewers in Australia.
New York is 3 hours ahead of Las Vegas so the kickoff times for our games there were 9.30pm & 11.30pm
now you could put them back for the AFL to say 4.30pm & 7.30pm NY time for those attending , but the telecast times in Aust for those games would be 8.30am in Melb
& 5.30am in Perth
theres a reason the NRL chose Vegas & not New York

Cronulla has already started their marketing campaign for 2025 in Vegas.

Information is ticket sales are well ahead of last year with the Warriors fans leading sales for the NRL teams ahead of the Raiders.
But both are behind the ESL teams Wigan & Warrington , with ticket sales from the UK very very strong. Its tracking for a crowd of over 50K easily & will be a bigger & better event then the highly successful one from this year.

I don’t think the AFL should try - Vegas is very apt for the NRL - a good match so to speak and it works well I think. Plus nrl can tap into New Zealand and English people going to it - so it makes a good trip away for the boys I think. AFL just has a whole different market and feel to it I think - doesn’t mean they won’t try and copy but I thi k it would be ill advised. If I was advising AFL house - I’d be recommending focusing on expansion first - sort out the abysmal GWS - it’s a basket case - have a team in Canberra (a apparent not so obvious no brainer) - rebrand totally gws - count your losses and restructure - reinvent. To that end - keep “opening round” but make it more encompassing with a game in Melbourne on the Sunday and also in wa and sa same day.
So no Las Vegas - it’s great for nrl and was great last year - but it’s not for the AFL at all. Plus I’d think you’d need a Vlandy”s to pull it off - guy is good. If the AFL are going to poach anything it should be him lol.

It'd be just another thing the fumbles & derps have copied from the NRL & i think would be seen as nothing more then that ,Fred wrote: Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:10 pmI don’t think the AFL should try - Vegas is very apt for the NRL - a good match so to speak and it works well I think. looks like NRL Vegas II 2025 , is going to be some event
Ticket sales are soaring ahead of RL's new " must go at least once before I die " event
https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/nr ... s-revealed
a crowd of around 60,000 is tipped with the English driving a significant increase , justifying PVL's decision to include the ESL in the event as a master stroke ( seriously does this guy get anything wrong ?)
, along with superior sales for the 3 Australian , 1 NZ NRL clubs up on last years 4 aussie ones. The Warriors fans are snapping up tickets like hot cakes , both Kiwis in NZ & those living in the Aust & the USA will be there.
wow
just wow

Who cares!! If they found footy from Australia & realised how good it is they would get 100,000 people to the game & most of America would be so into this great game from Australia called Aussie Rules (AKA Footy) If they saw Rugby they would say what is this strange sport where they throw the ball backwards to go forward & run into people. I mean anyone with half a brain would never get into a sport that sounds that stupid! The fact Rugby League is half popular in this great country or ours makes us look terrible. I mean the only country where it is popular in PNG. I think that says it all.
