Multiple surveys have for years put AFL participation streets ahead of league.
Iirc you have posted on here that the numbers released in the respective annual reports are far more accurate than polls or surveys .
Now you've changed.
Lol
No I havent moved my opinion what so ever. On Participation the AFL is still streets ahead of the NRL, any way you dice it. Unless you start trying to add Touch.
I seen there participation numbers at Birchgrove oval. They were street ahead there to.

Rugby League as a game is so Physical..
Touch was brought in for..
If you have certain injuries,
fitness / skill training
anyone can play....
It would be like AFL doing the same thing, but you don't tackle you just touch the player...
now would that make it a whole different sport ????????????
no... it just takes the Physical side out of the game,
and you rely on Speed / Skill In a different form.
The International Board overseeing the game may differ. If you read the article posted it actually talks about this on how new forms of football developed... one of which earlier on was the move from soccer to union due to tackles.

I think you just have to look at the number of teams and grades in western Sydney to see numbers are pretty good and compare this to 5 or 10 years ago to look at growth.

yeh I read the link, was interesting..
So the NRL own the rights to Touch in Australia
be good if they owned it world-wide
Rugby league is Touch Football - without tackling. >> SIMPLES>

You can say that ... but it is a different sport as you would have read. I'm not sure if nrl own the rights (a recent thing) or they are in a partnership.

http://touchfootball.com.au/our-history/
The rules, skills and concepts of the game have evolved progressively throughout the years, and Touch Football has developed into its own unique sport, attracting people from all walks of life, and for differing reasons. “we used to play with a marker and we used to have a kick on the last, we used to be seven-a-side. The skills that people now are capable of producing are nothing link what we could have imagined 30 years ago.” (Dennis Coffey, Secretary General of the Federation of International Touch)
As competitions grew and began to filter out from city centers, the need for uniformity arose. State associations were formed and in 1978 the Australian Touch Association was founded. Two years later, 1980, the first national championship was held. It was during this period that Touch Football began to develop its own unique set of rules and culture, to become a sport in its own right.

fitness for jogging up and down a field! can br a fatthy or juiced up on the roids & regularly go to the gym with mates
an AFL field is far bigger & players are expected to cover more ground faster and for longer, whilst at the same time being responsible for an opponent! then the skills component!
thousands of people play touch for fitness and social reasons! ive played it for years
both are physical games! the league participation numbers! leagues numbers are dwindling is because its a shit boring game!

Most people play touch to keep fit, not because of its skill, hell I used to play austag in Queens Park just to keep active.

Benji Marshall and Shaun Johnson were both champion touch players. They transferred the skills of the non contact game to RL and became two of the most exciting players of their generation.
There are many divisions including mixed teams and age specific teams in every touch association. Players just pick the level they're suited too and play.
There were nearly 700,000 registered players in Aus. last year. Many more play socially in parks and schoolgrounds etc.
And.......touch playing numbers are always stated separately to RL playing numbers. Touch is affiliated with the NRL and is clearly stated to be the non contact form of RL.
