They don't get the fact that SOO gives the rugby league world a team and they line up behind that team and they are passionate in their support. This is not a club game or even a grand final where at the heart are the supporters of the contestants joins by those who like watching a league game. In SOO all leaguies have a team and by the way that extends to places like NZ and PNG who just don't love watching SOO they are passionate each year about supporting the Blues or Maroons. AFL has no contest where the AFL world has a team.

Yes there are a number who watch because it is an event and what a great marketing tool SOO is to bring knew followers to the code. What geniuses think this is a problem.?

Emenarella perhaps you can explain it - if it is SOO why do both sides have players that were born OS or in other states???? It's all very well to say it's the pinochle of RL but if that's the case why call it SOO???? It therefore can't be a representative match because it's participants have manipulated the entry requirements - it makes the whole thing farcical - and like I continue to say if you enjoy it that is all that matters but don't expect others to look at as any more than a Tina Turnner gimmick. But unfortunately this is the ONLY area where RL takes centre stage - not in crowds, revenue, sponsorship or interest and passion week in week out - it is fast becoming the main event with your club competition a very sad side show - if that's what you want fine - but how do you sell it to Victorians, WA, SA, NT and Tassie people that they MUST play for either NSW or QLD to be part of it - how do you ask people from other states to maintain interest and be passionate about the contest and look it as just another event - yah can't because there is no attachment there! As for TV ratings - tell me just ONE thing with the ratings what is the percentage of support for each side????, Why doesn't those ratings translate into crowds, sponsorship or revenue???? It is one indicator and only one indicator of interest (and not a good one - generally people don't put their hands in their pockets for it!). But in every other indicators AFL is streets ahead!!!! Clearly some high anxiety associated with this acknowledgement based on attempt to minimise due to some player irregularities in the past but still going the right way.
