The AFL might be thinking of expanding to NZ and Tasmania.
The AFL is always looking at ways to improve the reach of the AFL.
AF is expanding throughout the world with limited help from the AFL.
With the exception of the RSA, PNG, NZ and a little in Europe the expansion of AF
around the world is being driven from people outside of the AFL environment.
I cannot see how you could argue with that.
but you will I guess. Yawn.

league, the stupid mans version of the much more popular union
the only reason why league only has a small following in a few countries is thanks to the success of union, even after league was invented in England
league is hardly international

Yet again, you fail to address the issue of not playing the International Cup overseas, and the lack of an Australian Team in said Cup. You're debating everything else but. Rugby league allows Australia to compete in the RLWC even though we are miles better than the other countries. Bringing in an Australian team for the International Cup will give the other countries a yardstick to aim for in skill. Do you dispute the value of this? Do you also dispute the value of holding the International Cup in another country in order to promote the game in that country?

Crackpot, pay attention will you FFS and stop repeating yourself.
The countries attending the AFL international Cup want to play the AFL International Cup in Australia.
It's as simple as that. There are other international competitions that countries can attend if they want, but the AFL International Cup has the most status so it is the pinnacle for post teams. The desire to win the AFL International Cup is simply to be the best and be declared winner having represented your country and being a national of that country.

To truly develop and expand the game, the International Cup should NOT be played in Australia. That was my point that you are so keen on missing it would appear.
And you avoided the issue of there being a team representing Australia again.

Why ?
Lock this one in.
The countries all want to play the International Cup in Australia.
There are other international competitions around the world.
The International Cup is NOT the sole international Australian Football event.
So any reply should include why the International Cup should replace any of the other international tournaments currently held overseas.

And Australia still doesn't take part except for having expats fill every other team.

Why ?
For development purposes, in particular venues and interest. The International Cup already has the rule of no Australian ex-pats and playing the Cup in Australia makes this rule much harder to fulfil. Hosting it elsewhere discourages ex-pats and encourages indigenous participation. If the game is to epxand this is essential. It won't expand on ex-pats alone.
Those who run the Cup should aim for the next tournament to be held outside Australia. Those who insist on playing it in Australia are against the expansion of the game.

There are many other international tournaments with different venues and different promotional opportunities.

I don't see why.

Australian Football is expanding all the time. The positioning of the IC is in no way seen as critical.

You're talking to the converted on that one.
The position of Australian Football is now a long way past it's original establishment of Australian Football.
Cracker wrote: Those who insist on playing it in Australia are against the expansion of the game.
Those who insist on the AFL IC being held in Australia are the competing nations.
How many times to I have to repeat this.
Why should Australians in Australia tell the players of Australian Football from all over the world where they should have their own WC ?

But none of them inolve all countries.

Are you suggesting that it is easy and cheap for countries to travel to Australia to compete? It is not. In the travel sense it's almost the worst place to play it.

It is crucial per what I just said.

If the competing nations are insisting on playing the Cup in Australia, then they are fools. Such an insistence is the enemy of the expansion of the game, not the friend. The game can not expand through the International Cup if it continues to be played in Australia. It holds the expansion up, and hands international competitiveness to rugby league in that battle almost on a plate.
