The cameras themselves have in built mics, DERP! As AFL crowds are louder and bigger, plenty of sound makes its way through. As nRL crowds are quieter and smaller, they need extra dedicated mics on the boundary line to make it seem like there is a crowd there making noise.

Not a cold. The flu! Which can KILL! And besides it also wastes sick leave which ends up costing a pay packet!
Cameras in the stands are inside glass booths! So they need external mics! The AFL have them. You just haven't looked properly, or they have them somewhere else.

Its a virus! You can't catch a virus from being exposed to cold or wet weather! Only from other infected people. In fact colds and flu are just as common in warmer tropical climates!
