How are you not getting this? Before Izzy signed, nobody in Sydney had heard of GWS. After he signed, everybody knew of them. The amount of money it would have cost the AFL in advertisment to reach that level of brand recognition far exceeded the cost of Izzy's wage.

And now, without paying him a cent from this point on, he will continue to get GWS into Sydney media articles. Every game he plays, every ball he catches, every time he kicks, the words AFL and GWS will be mentioned. Free of charge. Over the preseason every weight session he has to return to his nRL shape will reference GWS, there will be articles asking him to compare AFL training to nRL training, to compare Ricky Stewart and Kevin Sheedy. His old team mates will no doubt attend some of his games, and visa versa, keeping GWS in the papers and on the news.

And all for free. I'm not going to change your minds, you've convinced yourselves that you've had a victory over big brother, but you need to understand that we're not putting on a brave face here, we just don't feel like losers out of this at all.

Why? He was recruited for marketing purposes only and his signing, and playing, was reported by Australias media which helped the AFL market their new team. As Drac said, the AFL would have had to pay millions for their new team to be mentioned in the media as often as it was. With Izzy they got it for the cost of his contract.

The AFL would be smiling at the moment. They got Izzy for half their original agreement and his major role was achieved in the first months of his signing. Now the giants will draft Tippett and theyve dumped izzy the failure.

Good on Izzy for quitting 2 years into his 4 year contract. He could have stayed and he could have kept taking the money. However he realised that he was never going to be good enough to make the grade of being even an average player and he had to much pride not to be an elite player in a sport. Although his return to RL will mean he is earning less then half of his current wage he will again be one of the best 20 players in Australian Rugby league.

Yes good on Izzy. I wonder when Khunt will realise the same? On his track record of gold diggin in french rugby and in presenting himself as an AFL star on swiss multivitamin adds *coughbullshiiiiiit, he's completely sub par* I'd say he's gunna keep miling the AFL for poor on field performances for a few more years yet. And the AFL are completely oblivious/unable to measure his impact marketwise. Any fool would know that the initial marketing value would be legit, but after years and years of poor on field performances alongside the fact that as time goes by people forget/give up on viewing him as an experiment/RL convert this marketing value turns negative as the subpar performer lets down his team and the code, week in, week out.

I just cant get over how dumb and lacking in common sense these AFL Head Honchos are. And the Khunt probably agrees with me...on the inside...as he drives round the GC in his ferrari

You obviously didn't watch the Suns play much in 2012. After an awful 2011, K's actually pretty good now. He's a contested ball getter who feeds out passes to Ablett, Bennell and Swallow. He doesn't kick all that often (except to break the hearts of Richmond), but his role doesn't require it. He's like a modern-day Brett James.

Whereas Izzy was taking the position of a player superior to himself, K's not taking a position away from anyone that deserves it more.

K Hunt showed some good signs and played some good games. He was not consistant enough and would at best be judged as a below par to average player in 2012. That doesn't mean that he couldn't be an average to good player next year with more improvement.

Plenty of AFL experts have praised K Hunt and his development into a quality midfielder. Hmm which to believe, them or you?

Again, for those that watched Suns games this year, he's a solid contributer that plays his role well. As I said, he's become a pretty good player. I didn't say he was a superstar.
