Your only reason for suggesting its a poor venue is because its exposed to the elements. What about all the dismal storm crowds in perfect weather conditions? :-k

some of the comments from patrons who have visited AAMI park. Note that nearly 95% rated the stadium very good or better.

One of the best venues in Melbourne. I am a Melbourne Storm menmber and think it is a great spectator viewing stadium. Easy to get to and from. Very clean facilities
It is a top stadium with excellant visual of the ground in all seats I believe. It is prefect for watching rugby. could only be improved if the Rebels could actually win a game or two!
Best medium size stadium in the world. Close to the action, loud, vibrant, fun. Beautiful playing surface. Great bars. Not a bad seat in the stadium.
Watched the game between Melbourne Storm and Broncos. Transport so easy to use and short distance to walk. Great to watch the game even from high up in the stands would go again
I went to a Reds v Rebels Rugby Union game here. The stadium is well designed with very good seating all around and two large screens at either end to view replays etc. The food and drink facilities were well managed and adequate. The stadium is easily access from Richmond Train Station or by tram and is only a short walk to the city. The stadium is located near the MCG, Hisense Arena and Rod Laver Arena. At night the outside is lit with colourful lights. I would go to a game here again.
This purpose built stadium is amazing! The atmosphere is great and there is not one seat in the whole stadium that is obstructed thanks to the odd looking roof which offers a decent element of cover from the ever-changing Melbourne elements.
I have been to quite a few sporting venue /arenas in Australia and this place is one of the best. It looks like every seat is decently located.
The people working there seem quite friendly, whether you work in hospitality or security. Staff are helpful. Heaps of toilet facilities but also, lot's of food and beverage locations. Public transport give you a few options with the trams, buses, taxis and trains. You can go to Jolimont, Richmond, Flinders Street Station or walk into the city.
As usual, the drinks prices are quite expensive but it is good you can bring your own food.
If Sydney had a venue like this, it would be much better and maybe they would sell more tickets in the process (ie State of Origin Game II took awhile to sell out!). Ticket prices are reasonable.
WOW, what an experience. Fantastic venue for a fantastic experience, Sydney has a lot to learn from Melbourne and Brisbane on how to make a game an unforgetable experience. The facillities at the ground are first and world class. I am a TIGER fan and the people of Melbourne made our experience just the best. I will be back again next year for another dose of Melbourne attitude.
I have been here as a spectator and a volunteer guide with Melbourne Open House. This structure is great for sports watching with good views (not too high up!) and protection from the weather. The facilities are spacious and clean.
Am a season ticket holder of Melbourne Victory, so have been coming here since it opened - was lucky enough to be invited to a special night there before it ever hosted a game... An amazing stadium, great facilities, beautiful pitch! If you are a sports fan you will enjoy checking out a game here!

and on and on it goes.

But according to Striker this fantastic stadium is the reason the Storms crowds are so poor! #-o

You know as well as I do how fickle Melbourne's weather is!

And there are a lot of optimists amongst those comments who haven't experienced the worst of AAMI Park.

Melbournites are used to the weather. There are horrible days, great days, and days where you get both. This will never change and is not a good enough reason for a drop in crowds for an entire year. Seems to me days with absolutely no rain at all still resulted in shocking crowds in what is otherwise a terrific stadium. This shows their supporter base is miniscule.

Pfft. What truth? Are you agreeing that AAMI park is horrible and stunts the storm's crowds because it lets the rain in?

Posts or rain, which did I mention?

Hmmmm, Essendon RLFC, heard of them before Xman, they actually played right where the new rectangle stadium is now (strange)

Link isn't working now but this bit is all you need to see.

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=rugby ... e&ie=UTF-8
THEY couldn't find a ground, their goalposts were cut down, they faced opposition in the community, and yet Essendon District Rugby League ...

I'll see if I can find the 3 reports, all of the links to the newspaper have been taken down but I did post all 3 in full somewhere.

Yep, they even kick other established codes off grounds so the new boy has as much room as possible
