The AFL system is straightforward. media Income goes into general revenue then divied out among the clubs.
That's why the Swans were so important to VFL because they were the only TV game on a Sunday

It seems to be quite a mix of stakeholders, from media interests, private owners to traditional club setup.
Why are nrl clubs so dependant on their leagues club ?

Very much like the AFL system. The revenue that the NRL generates from sponsorship and media is divided among the club as yearly club grants.

The ownership model of the clubs has no impact on whether or not they get the money. Every club gets the same amount.

But the clubs are seperate entities in the NRL in it's business model. The AFL clubs are not. And in the AFL it's not a yearly grant. It's a compulsory spread of revenue, which can be lopsided if a club makes the finals. It works the same way in the local competitions.
