Is that why they spent so long without a major sponsor?

So if NRL fans are so happy to pay for fox why was there an epic reaction of anger over the latest rights?

the financial strength of the Raiders was evident wasn't it d head  ... no stress at all despite not having a major sponsor

& you think 5 ignorant posters having a whinge on LU represents all RL fans
smarter RL fans ( most of us ) knew this deal was about the dosh & nothing else
breaking the F&L rights was huge as well

the NRL will now start off a billion plus in 2017 for the next lot of rights
& all the things we didn't get this time .. we will next time & still with well ova a billion in our pockets ..

we'll be unstoppable in the next 20 years
great days ahead

makes no discernable difference really
the Raiders have great sponsors who were aware our side doesn't see much FTA coverage when they signed
plus the Raiders are in a very solid financial position off field .. doing very well actually

Port Tankelaide have double our crowds .... 4 times our members & are shown on FTA in Mongelaide every game & plenty in the rest of the country too
yet they're still broke 8-[
stoney .. motherless ... broke :-k

Raiders >>>>>>>> Port Tankelaide
yeah, except that Raiders fans are forced to pay for Fox to see their team. They sure dont go to their games!
Canberrans are the wealthiest people in the commonwealth
paying for stuff isn't an issue for them
It would appear that paying for a Raiders membership seems to be an issue for them.

A draft version of the NRL draw for the first 20 rounds for next year has allocated just one free-to-air game for the Raiders, limiting exposure for their sponsors.

''We have games where we lose money and you can't stay in business doing that, so you've got to look at other options,'' Furner said.

''We have to always look at ways of maximising our revenue and also maximising our exposure for our sponsors. Sadly, the lack of exposure we get on Channel Nine does force us to look at all these ways

The Raiders are the minnows of Australian sport. With an annual revenue of a poultry 12M, which includes 2 million from the ACT government, they struggle to make anything from gate receipts because their average is a few hundred people over the required attendance to break even with stadium costs. They get 1 FTA game per year limiting their sponsorship revenue significantly.

Good on 'em for trying I suppose...

So they get 2 million a year from the ACT Government and then cry when they find out the Giants get paid to play the national sport in Canberra? #-o

Actually Raiderdave, the finances of both Port and the Crows are weakened by the gready $NAFL who take all gate takings unless Port's crowd is above 28k, and for the Crows above 38k. This is compared to the Raiders who only need a crowd of 10,000 to break even, yet they still struggle money wise. The sooner the clubs are separate from the $NAFL the better.

Its like a business with a sporting club on the side. The club itself operates on probably the lowest budget of any AFL/NRL team.

Yeah, but theyre richer than Collingwood!!!!!!!

a bigger profit then the VFL's biggest club , & the Raiders have been posting profits like these for the last 6 years .....yes its a painful read for ol marcus
overall one of the best run clubs in the country are the lil ol Raiders considering how little national exposure it gets
as our chairmen John Mcintyre said as a result of very smart business practices , the days of struggle .. are over

meanwhile poor old Port Tankelaide
22 games on FTA TV

Ah no. The Raiders made a loss like 15 other NRL clubs

The Raiders business arm made a profit and only supplied a small amount to the Raiders NRL club meaning they relied on ACT government and NRL grants to survive.

Now theres a good business model!!

Collingwood have the funds to spend 5 times the money the Raiders do on their club.

Hmm, Raiders are better off though!

ah no gumby .... the Raiders football operation made a tiny loss of 200K
its other business's made a 3.6 Million dollar profit
thats right .. its .... it owns all of the other operations , the same board controls the lot , that 3.6 Million dollar profit ... all ours!!
hardly any NRL clubs can claim this .....

they're both banking exactly the same amount of dough at seasons end

Collinsturd ....
Collingwood have a 35M training facility across the train line from the MCG. They employ a massive contingent of support staff. They arent necessities, theyre luxuries because theyre loaded!

But the Raiders are just as well off.....even though their trying to sell home games to Perth to gain much needed revenue... Not to mention the fact theyre leaching off the AACT government for 20% of their revenue! #-o #-o

So 1 FTA game for a top 8 team. AFL clubs would never put up with that sort of deal. With almost half of your games televised on FTA TV you should expect that you get at least 6 games televised out of 24 (one quarter) For a top 8 team they should be getting about half of their games televised. Out of the 72 games in regular season they have 1 televised. This means that the Raiders feature in less then 1.5% of FTA games.
Correct me if i'm wrong , but arent GWS and Gold coast barred from Friday nights? I also can recall showing some figures showing that12months ago showing how near half the AFL clubs had got fewer than 10 matches of a Friday night over the previous 4 years. Melbourne and Nth Melbourne didn't get much more than one.
The AFL reward the clubs who make the 8 the previous year with more Friday night games. Plus we have Saturday night live too. It's therefore evenly shared amongst clubs over a number of years. The NrL show the Broncos almost exclusively no matter where they finish, to the detriment of many other NRL teams.

All for ratings, nothing for the smaller clubs struggling for exposure. Any wonder why the raiders struggled for sponsors
Your Hypocracy is laughable, Canberra were shown at least twice of a Friday night this year(more than 4-5 of your teams). A couple of times on Sunday and every week on Fox. And just like your clubs more success will result in more TV coverage.

How often do WA see a WA game ? every week?

Every week but they dont own Friday night! That's the difference. The majority of AFL teams are on FTA every week but the biggest game is Friday night and this is shared between the successful clubs of the year before.

Yet the majority of NRL teams are not on FTA every week, except the broncos who own Friday night, the biggest stage. Why? To maximise ratings and nothing else. And teams like the raiders get left behind.
