No I'm on with the sheer numbers of viewers recorded as a much more valid indicator of viewer support.
So the fact they have more games, more live games, more viewable games, rep games and shorter games is not relevant? #-o

The poll results see through these disparities to reveal the true winner.

The fact that the Super bowl gets billions for a 10sec. add has sweet FA do do with the length of the game & everything to do with its popularity. Without including regional viewers, our numbers are pretty close, on an apples V apples and Oranges V's Oranges basis we are actuall slightly ahead. But when you include test & Origin football there no longer even a contest. Adds during major sporting events is wear the real money from advertising is & its here that we swamp you.

What brain dead moron would advertise during a Swans game, even if it went thee weeks?
Moron! The fact is a longer game can fit in more 10second adds!

Without The regionals the NRL are way behind. Even with the regionals they're behind given the AFL is 50% longer and therefore the rating hours are far longer.

You clearly know nothing eelofwest.

International Rules for a start provides an opportunity for one to represent Australia in front of crowds here and overseas that dwarf RL internationals dopey.

As for tv. Ha, as if the people of Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne are interested in RL. Hello, you obviously don't remember the Rams, Reds and the current basket case the Storm who lose $8 million each and every year. What a pathetic sport.

National? In your dreams.

The poll is as you stated it to be Xman. "Simple". Those who have a little more depth of wisdom and knowledge know this is not the full picture. More games yes. It means more viewers, yes indeedy! Rep games? Yes! It means more viewers, my fukkin oath it does because its a brilliant concept used by the vast majority of pro sporting comps worldwide.

Chew those sour grapes elsewhere Xman, i'm sick of imagining your twisted noggin all confused and angry about the fact that more families are sitting down and watching RL year in year out, weekend in, weekend out  :\:
Simple polls are the best. 1 question: "which sport do you watch on TV"

Most peoples answer was AFL. Hardly surprising given the AFL GF wins year after year.

So the NRL have more games, rep games, more viewable games per weekend, shorter games, more live games etc etc, but in the end the AFL this year has far more hours on TV per week. Far more! 27hs v the NRLs 16hrs. And theyll win again and it ain't going to be close either!

Beaussie those men who represent their country arent playing marngrook. They're playing some hybrid version that is played by noone nowhere ever...apart from the 3 fairly impassionate matches played out each 2nd year or less.

Again the term Australian rules football and no national team presents quite the conundum...as it also would if there actually were a national side :-k

Like american football, the bane of australian rules international existence and success lies within the very name of the sport.

It's probably also why the supporters in here are blinded with ignorance and arrogance that their sport is THE national sport. [-X

International Rules provides one with the opporutnity to represent Australia and the AFL here and overseas. That is an undisputable fact like it or not.

Totally incorrect. IR is played widely throughout the world.

"Australian Rules Football" is a collloquism so is totally irrelevant.
And again you totally wrong - there are Australian Football national sides.
Australia plays Australian Football at a national level against other countries.

I've never heard anyone say I don't follow a sport because it's called "American". "Australian" or "Gaelic" football.
There are plenty of rl people who wont touch RU because Rugby is a toffy-nosed rich private school.

The new AFL team started with 38k, Thursday night was 78k and 90k predicted for Friday night.
What a start to the season.

Hmm. Quiet on here today.

It's amazing how a 45% increase in TV ratings and a crowd of nearly 80k will scare some of our RL friends away. :D

I have a feeling they won't be back tomorrow either given tonight's game is even bigger!!

Ahhh you duffer pussycat! #-o like me, many AFL fans have taken on foxtel and are now no longer watching advertisement filled coverage. So the increase has come because more people are watching overall, some on foxtel and some on FTA.

Now off you go, play in the kitty litter or scratch the good couches.

So around 15%, impressive - almost - its a hand picked match. You havent got an even competition like ours the fade will come, only you'll have further to fall this time.

Traditionally average AFL crowds 2x nrl crowds.
Now it looks like AFL ratings 2x nrl ratings.

Dude nrl is the most uneven, reactive fixture I have ever seen!

Gallop n co wait for our fixtures (AFL) then realase theres targeting there biggest games to impact on the nsw/qld AFL sides (paranoid much nrl?)

the AFL sets its own agenda and runs its own race, that is why its number 1

australias game
