sure if you put stock in the idea that theatre events match general interest in the league. I dont.
i am looking at the picture of what Melbourne Generates in ratings
and what Perth is currently doing without a team
Perth 190k
Melbourne 308k
with Populations bases totally different..
Perth is way better setup to be alot more successful than the Storm ever were by a long way
in literally every metric

and this is why the NRL huge potential in PERTH 190k FTA audience with no NRL team yet..
156k WA AFL DERBY
this is why most NRL punters experts are way more confident with the BEARS being big and successful really quick
190k Tv Audience Plus 45k Locals at the game plus 13k from Interstate.
settle down!
SOO it an event and the casual viewer disappears pretty quick. eg Melbourne and the Storm it will be no difference in perth
it will be alot different in Perth
Ratings in Perth were 190k Off a way lower population to Melbourne at 308k
Storm have alot harder time competing in Melbourne
Where as the Bears will only have to compete with 2 teams

While its a good result its only a 23k higher audience than it did in 2019 without a team. Thats margin of error territory.
Population/Audience difference is largely irrevelant 8.7% for Perth to 5.1% for Melbourne - Noting that Melbourne have a hugely popular AFL show(the Front Bar) on at that time which will have sucked 2-250k of the audience away, that isnt shown in Perth until after origin finishes due to time difference, but which impacts ratings.

Perth Population > 2.1mill >>> 190k (double it to 4.2mill your looking at 380k equivalent) with 1.3mill pop less.
Melb Population 5.4mill >>>> 308k
point taken on Front Bar >> that would hurt Victorian Audience.
when i say without a Team>> Perth has no team yet in the comp >> which generates more interest..
190k with no team >> in NRL
adding a team>> you would suspect that Origin Figure to go up.
Melbourne 308k with team for almost 30 years.

One can always have optimism but,
It’s a very pro AFL state and been a bit of a grave yard for other codes union and soccer
The expat poms and co are, rusted on fans from local and national teams from there country of origin
The irony is the Perth Wild cats of the NBl are huge over here

Its a decent crowd puller - one of the highest in the league. from memory around 17,000 or so.
