Aussie Rules has always had a large presence in SEQ. It is no where near the RL that is for sure. Is it growing - probably - but cutting through - I don’t think so. I think it has kind of plateaued to be honest - still a lot of interest but doesn’t compete with NRL. Most people who follow say Brisbane would still follow an NRL team. I think most reasonable people have room for both. The discussion around Aussie rules I have with Rl or union followers is there is a healthy respect for afl - they don’t see it as the enemy. The discussion on here with the hate that is spewed I rarely encounter.

Lol my reply was moved
How can one side accuse the other of hate & not let them reply .
& it’s a fight club .
You’re supposed to argue ..put down rival sports.
Is that not what the TFc is for .
& as for your hate crap .
Lol
The AFL side onhere has a far worse history than the RL side .

How big is tonight going to be with the lions.

All anyone in Brisbane is talking about is them now the Broncos are out.

Come on boys.

Well Pete .
Seeing as you are wrong about most things I’d say you’re wrong here .
How many people did you ask in Brissy .
A few of your fumble mates ….those in the cult .

There’ll be interest .
But far more in the NRL finals game in Syd tonight.

The Interest is from every Brisbane radio station talking about us & we are back & front of the Courier Mail.

I would say that's pretty big for a sport that is not that big here as you guys always state.

I think there is interest - and Brisbane being Brisbane always jumps on a bandwagon. But I am not getting overwhelmed with it - yes, some more media as to be expected but nothing over-the-top. Crowd will be hugh.

Interesting to see what the ratings are for NRL and AFL games tonight for Brisbane. I think it will show a lot more watching the NRL given it is a RL town. But I think you will also get a higher rating for the Lions than otherwise would have now Broncos are out understandably. Any - ratings are just one metric so shouldn't base everything on that - but a good one none-the-less.

The ratings will be interesting. I would say 140,000 for the Rugby League & about 100,000 for the Lions.

The 100,000 will drop though once we get thrashed now Daniher is out. Melbourne could thrash us :(

LOL! I think actually a bigger slab will be barracking for the Swans tomorrow night - because it's against Collingwood!

Collingwood have strangely enough, according to the commentators I hear and shows watched, have become a bit of a fan favourite - people are actually liking Collingwood - which is, of course, previously unheard of.

I think you'll find a large contingent heading toward the SCG tonight of Pies supporters don't you worry about that.

it is literally the biggest game in almost 20 years for the Lions.

It should rate pretty well.
100k Plus

(i do not expect NRL to rate that well into Brissy tonight.
it will beat the AFL as it should. but not by a huge amount.
Parra v Raiders Semi.

I agree with you Fred. Everyone normally hates Collingwood but this team & coach are actually quite likeable.

There is no Collingwood team in their long history you could ever say that about.

On the first paragraph - not in Melbourne! I remember vividly in 2018 at WWE Super Showdown at the MCG just a week after the grand final, when bad guy wrestler Elias accused Collingwood of choking and he got cheered! (Wasn't supposed to happen - someone didn't do their homework!)

Lions were pathetic last night. Most of the night it looked as if they had totally given up even trying. Fully expecting to see really miserable tv ratings for last nights prelim.
