Yes they get beaten in the ratings In Sydney, as I said most popular club NOT the most popular code.

There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

Most popular club for game attendance. For overall eyes on the game i.e. attendance + tv they would be 10th at best.Quolls2019 wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 10:51 amTerry

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
And that is where the code comes in. As I have repeatly said club not code.
If some proportional maths were done on the ratings, the swans would be much higher, but I am not convinced of the validity of that method.
The SOO games go someway to disproving a theory that Sydney fans don’t go to games for a variety of reasons such as transport difficulty, The Swans have been disproving that for years even when playing on the same day, same time against NRL games at Moore Park.
Butt, butt, bummer.
(In jest)

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
Pal, my attendance + tv ratings analysis has nothing to do with code v code. What it means is many many more people in Sydney watch each of the 9 RL clubs either live or TV than watch the Swans.Quolls2019 wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 11:13 amAnd that is where the code comes in. And as Wookie stated in his beautifully written article on The Roar "Why are we so worried about attendances?" The AFL is the outlier in world sport. Per head of population no one comes near them in live attendances. Well done!!
By world comparisons RL does very well in the markets they are in.

Well Terry, Going by those averages, it's safe to assume that Sydney siders find the AFL far more (almost double )important to attend, week after week after week after week in the H&A.Terry wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 10:55 amMost popular club for game attendance. Get out of melbourne bubble - no widespread appeal for all white swans in Sydney.

I see... DAM OZTAMThe_Wookie wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 5:52 pmOZtam - there are very strict rules around what and how you can publish data. And probably me - and the old nrlratings account that someone else ran that year that stopped running after a while - i assume because like me, got hit with Oztam demands.leeroy*NRL* wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 5:45 pmAny idea why They took off the Metro figures from the Fox figures..

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
Thanks Wookie. Tremendous work pal!!!!The_Wookie wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 1:53 pmIn 2017 we were lucky for about half the season or so to get metro splits for Fox ratings, so ive compared thecombined average crwd/ave fta/ave fox ratings for all sydney nrl and AFL teams over that period where all figures are available, so we can put paid to this - this is home and away figures for all fta/fox in sydney only - i need to adjust the average crowd figures included somewhat, but the overall impact should be roughly the same.
Code Team Total
NRL Parramatta 336,563
NRL St George Illawarra 330,585
NRL South Sydney 327,324
NRL Sydney 316,172
NRL Canterbury-Bankstown 314,516
NRL Wests Tigers 303,613
NRL Penrith 295,678
NRL Manly-Warringah 294,613
NRL Cronulla-Sutherland 292,881
AFL Sydney 129,928
AFL G.Western Sydney 81,188
So it would appear I am once again correct. The Swans get great crowds but they're still only the 10th most popular club in 'ol Sydney town.......and by a massive margin.

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
Not by crowds they are not. I think combining the two statistically is a little dubious as one is an estimate with many confounds and the other is actual crowd numbers. By all means you could talk about ratings and swans do poorly but as far as crowds go, swans get the best crowds. It’s like I’m back at uni again teaching . But the old adage off using statistics to twist and turn and pick and choose to support an hypothesis is indeed true.
