Serious Question. SoO is an amazing spectacle and gets a lot of people watching and very passionate. Crowds are usually fantastic. However people often say that NRL gets poor crowds due to it is better to watch RL on TV given the format of the game. If this is the case, wouldn't people stay home to watch to the SoO rather than attend the game.

Now, I know the answer to this, it is because of the atmosphere, the spectacle, the excitement of being at an event, the roar of the crowd, the rivalry. It's electric. This is the challenge for the NRL re: crowds then - how can they get the people to turn out to their games regularly and in numbers? How do they make it a game day experience that people want to go to? But I do think people need to drop the "it's better to watch on TV" as SoO has shown that if you can make going to the game exciting and fun then people will go. With streaming competing for viewers, there may not be the dollars from TV deals to come and having a solid extra revenue stream from crowds possibly becoming vital - the NRL really do need to boost crowds.

The next biggest event on the nrlol calendar is the grand final and struggles to sell out at bargain bin ticket prices and at tokes to save total embarrassment the league has to give tickets away! Last year it was at least 10k possibility even 20k out of a total of 80k tickets!

What I’m not sure our AFL boys understand because they don’t support an org which has managed to establish an event so successful is that State of origin also engages and draws in ALL nrl fans. So when you froth and slobber out “where are all the nrl fans outside of origin?” I think youll find the answer is they’ve gone back to watching their individual clubs. You bloody idiots
