And it's a valid interpretation too given the Storm still have a modest following after nearly 2 decades of outstanding success, and grass roots competitions are few and far between. As I said earlier, you could locate a team in the South Pole but that wouldnt qualify as expansion by any logical measure

call it what you like, I dont give a fuck. But merely locating a team in another city isnt real expansion. The locals have have to adopt the game to some level for that title. When the club is full of players from interstate and overseas that aint expansion, thats relocation

I agree. If th storm had a following like the swans and there was a rugby league grassroots of any significance (like Aussie rules has in Sydney) then yes, it would be considered to have expanded. Same goes for western Sydney ... have the AFL expanded there? Sure the placed a team there and sure they have some supporters ... but they have yet to infiltrate that area I would say. In saying that western Sydney probably has more Aussie rules clubs than there are rl clubs in melbourne. I think they actually have their own league for that area.

oh my. The giants are an expansion team because they are located in a market where the Giants are recruiting players from NSW via their own local academy.
This is massively different to relocating players from interstate to play in Melbourne. The storm may be an expansion team, but this does not mean that RL has truly expanded into Melbourne

Gridiron expanding into Canada is NOT very successful, especially given the outrageous popularity of Gridiron in the USA, and how the US culture influences Canada's.
Sport has EVERYTHING to do with where it originated, you only have to look at cricket and how it is followed in countries with British roots to see that. Sports originating in smaller countries just dont expand internationally because they have minimal influence, and countries with their own established sports rarely take on new sports to the point that they survive professionally. I mean RL has had over 100 years to cross Australia and still hasnt. Any wonder Aussie rules hasnt expanded outside its originating country.

ACT is a territory within NSW. RL is not a significant sport in Vic because there is no significant representation at professional level, and very small grass roots competitions. Having an adopted team here means nothing
