ANZ Stadium at Homebush becomes the big winner in the Baird government’s $1.6 billion sporting venue investment.
ANZ STADIUM revamped rectangle and roof $750 million 77,000 seats
Parra new stadium 350million 35,000 seats
Moore Park (upgrade 300million) (unkown)
leaves approx. 200mill left of funds. for other stadiums ?? maybe ?
Is this good or bad? I haven't really followed it.
for the 3 rectangle codes, this is absolutely brilliant
Parra stadium will be complete in 2019
ANZ will be done in stages, but it will be Suncorp on Steroids once completed
each stand behind the in goals will be moved in 40meters.
and side lines will be a lot closer and steeper with a roof.
Moore Park will be renovated after the other 2 are complete.
so its a

to the NSW government MR Baird you are changing NSW

I hated going ANZ personally - I felt too far away and half filled still felt not much atmospher. But as the Swans have the SCG it won't really affect us - will St.George play more games at SCG or Moore park?
Yeh very true,
built for the Olympics and only suited that.
any of the codes it is not suited for.
if you think it was crap watching a AFL game there imagen a NRL game.
AFL and cricket at the SCG is superb hard to get it any better.
St George will play games every where lol
they play at win stadium in the gong
Oki in Kogarah
ANZ stadium
Moor park for Anzac day
and SCG game against Souths.
Its a clap clap for the 3 new Stadiums =D> =D>
Will RL accept ground rationalisation? It has worked very well in Melb (although most think another 30k stadium would fill the need for crowds when playing interstate teams with small followings e.g. Port, GWS, GC, Briabane and Freeo).
I think you will find after all new stadiums are built( not much will change)
regarding NRL teams in Sydney metro
Canterbury will play at new Olympic Pk (1 or 2 games at Belmore)
Sharks will play in Cronulla (no sign of moving)
Manly will play at brookvale, (no sign of moving)
Parramatta will play at the new Parra Stadium
Panthers at penrith
Souths at new Olympic pk
Dragons (im guessing a couple at Kogarah and Wollongong and new Olympic Pk
with Anzac day at moore park
roosters at moore park
Tigers - Leichardt cambletown and Olympic Pk.
I think Clubs will use the Big games at New Grounds and Little games at the Suburban grounds.

ANZ redevelopment is great news, being rectangular is going to make viewing so much better.
FFA has agreed to Socceroos and Matilda's games there, and the fact the end stands can also be brought in is great for football good news for Rugby League and shows how well League and football can work together.
I would like the new Parrastadium to have the same deal allowing the end stands to be brought in getting rid of the endzones between league and football matches.
Parra stadium looks like it will get safe standing as well which is great news

While I agree it is a good deal for the rectangle sports - will the clubs playing at small venues grow smaller over clubs playing at bigger stadia? I look at Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorne all have 70k members- as they moved to MCG, the clubs that were reluctant to move and eventually moved to docklands seem not to have grown as much. Would it have been better to spend less on ANZ and spend more on the suburban stadium so there is greater crowd growth?

Apples and oranges in my view, although the exception to disprove my view are Canterbury, who have grown since moving to ANZ.
Teams with a decent suburban ground like Cronulla, Parra and Penrith won't have a problem growing.
I think west tigers have an issue maybe manly

Manly has been given 20 million to get a new stand built, it'll be built away from the ground and put up over an off season they say. Capacity around the 23k mark I think.

Most importantly it adds 4k more undercover seating instead of the grass hills.

yep, about time.
I remember back in the 80's that place cramming in near 28k for a Parra game, imagine that crowd packed into the joint nowadays lol, it looks like it's bursting at 16k.

Brookvale hasn't changed since I saw Wests play Manly there 40 yrs ago, don't know the fascination with a grass hill, it's slippery when it rains, it's cold and you can't take kids there, why don't they just cough up the dough and build a purpose built stadium that holds 25 - 30, that's the one place that will never really drop in crowds. But I think other RL people say they are the one club that won't travel.

Hard to say on growth, in the new stadiums.
though it would be great to have 30k suburban grounds for every team
it does create the atmosphere of your in our territory. (home advantage)
though this is going be just as good in regards to growth and viewing for fans
and teams will still use there home grounds for the occasional games. :D

Agreed
R.L union and soccer should have been lobbying for years for these upgrades.
its great to see.
The Roof over Olympic park too, will help with bad weather
creating what Ethiad has had for years.
Game is good no matter what the weather.
Have the Wanderers locked in Olympic pk during the Parra stadium make over ?
