I think there's five rl clubs for all if tassie and maybe 6 or 7 for Adelaide. I think in Melbourne it's about 9 at best covering from Geelong to cranbourne ...

You are forgetting when talking about national,it has to be what a derpballer sees as national.

No code is truly national,or they all are.

If you look at the list supplied you will see how broadly across this nation ar is played ... Far far more so than rl. Soccer would obviously match or even better this. But when you through in things like national coverage both on radio and TV, press coverage etc then ar is clearly more national than any other footy code

The AFL has guaranteed loans for a while, because all league income is subject 1) to AFL distributions and 2) AFL policies. In most cases the loans are to cover new facilities - certainly the case in Victorian clubs - and in any case, those loans are down 2 million to 40 million for 2014. Its also noticeable that these are the leagues ONLY liabilities as opposed to the NRL and its 128 million worth of fuck knows what in debts - and thats just HQ.

You carry on like debt is a bad thing, but again its only bad if you cant pay it off, which most clubs appear to be doing just fine at the moment, again with the exceptions being Brisbane and Port Adelaide.

While me and Dave might not know a lot concerning the NRL debt levels, Im sure Smith does! a man who made billions at his previous posituon And if he's comfortable enough banking $50m than any liabilities the NRL have can't be too current. Yep that's a code that is popular like indoor cricket and netball. But look at how much Aussie rules is played across the nation whereas rl simply is not played to the same levels. Baseball is much bigger (I've played baseball in Victoria and qld)

Fact is there was no rl where I lived in Victoria. That area covers about a third of the state. There was a very small metro/Geelong league that I could have travelled over an hour to the city suburbs and that league was spread over metro Melbourne and Geelong.
