I am not saying anyone printed those words but when it comes down to it that is the bottom line ... AFL have penetrated the Sydney and qld market quote well and there are a lot if people who play the game on those areas. The same can't be said for rl in non heartland states although in wa they do appear to be doing better than the other states ... No thanks to the nrl but to some committed locals. Is AFL doing as well as they'd like us to believe ... Probably not bit that's all part and parcel of the marketing and promotion. Cam my son go and play AFL just about anywhere on Australia ... Sure can ... Could he play rl where we used to live in Gippsland ... No....unless he wanted to travel over an hour and then travel further each week to play the opposition. Rl is so small in Victoria it wouldn't be in the top 20 sports IMO

your bumbling abortion of a sport only has a presence north of the murray due to migrating fumblers
it has made almost ZERO impact on the vast majority of the local population
that's why when the penetration is analysed .. it is quite small

Most Sydneysiders really can't be bothered with it & that's the same everywhere in NSW albeit for a thin tiny strip along the murray & that's been that way for over 100 years
Same in QLD ... expat twats or their offspring
hardly anyone else gives a stuff
over 30 years of topline fumbles n bumbles in these states at enormous ... massive cost ( it'd be well over a Billion dollars ) ... has delivered very very little when looked at closely
that's just the way it is

as for RL outside of its heartland
it hasn't been 15 years yet & a sport that was broke til now as a result of a destructive civil war in 1997 hasn't spent much to date on its expansion plans , but is making many inroads recently
our acquisition of touch football is a master stroke & we'll get Tag soon too.
we'll get kids in the Sthn states playing these games without the intimidating contact first up & they are very enjoyable games to play
& as the years & decades with sthn kids watching RL on TV ( many are now ) they will want to play it at least in the modified forms til under 12's
& if they have the attributes ....ie size & strength .. 13's & up

RL is a game for more solid built types
& its only competitor in this area is Union .... & this sport has descended into almost complete irrelevance in this country.. its quite amazing how this sport is now a near joke :_<> :_<>
so RL will have no real competitors for players & will engulf the market for this type of player nationally in the decades to come if these kids want to earn a quid playing sport.

but the fumbles n bumbles has some real competitors for players
lighter built .. bordering weedy .. is no impediment to playing it ..... but this player can play many sports & has many options
Soccer.. a real threat for players nationally ...certainly in the Nthn states
Touch..... will be a viable option pushed hard in the Sthn states by Rugby League
Tag.... see above
Basketball ( if they're tall as well)... big $$$ to be earnt all over the world ... & I know for a fact ( a mate in the organisation) Basketball Aust is going to begin a huge recruitment push in the coming years targeting VFL & Union specifically for taller players.... they will go directly to junior national championships & do this

& a player has a choice
play the above sports & see the world

play fumbles & bumbles & see Werribee

I think junior numbers in Victoria are 500 I think with 200 adults could be other way around and figures change a lot. Also, only the one league I believe in Victoria although some team on border?? I think
