Yes pies I agree. I mean we can all see the marketing ploy had some cred, initially. Then when the player who single handedly sold 72% of guernseys in 2012 turns out to be a dudd and decides to high tail it outta there to RL after one season we can all, well those of us with developed brains (pick up yer game Xman

), see that the move was a complete and utter flop. Bad management and decision making by the head honchos down at AFL HQ...yet again. To be objective though we must acknowledge the attendance culture in the AFL, its quite awesome...but then again the current head honchos down at AFL HQ have simply walked into this, they've done diddly squat to improve things, just lip service here and lip service there whilst making woeful decisions on matters such as tanking, expansion, and racism.

Interesting fact - 72 per cent of Giants jumpers sold this year have number 4 on the back. That would be Israel Folau.

=D> =D>
He did his job perfectly! Smart people these AFL administrators
yep.... all those people are now buying Parramatta NRL jumpers
thanks to the VFL Izzy is a bigger brand now then he ever was while in the NRL ... & in Western Sydney ....bigger then the entire Midgets club
the NRL says thanks
good job VFL

Yet many of those kids who showed interest in the giants because of izzy may never have shown an interest had he not been recruited.
That's the point fools!

I totally get that point Xman you confused buffoon. And now, they look at their Folau no. 4 guernsey and, with regret and tears in their eyes say to their friends and parents... "where did he go?"
And the friends and parents all say. "He's gone to Rugby League sonny jim, Rugby League... That guernsey is worth nothing no more, its a bogus guernsey as was the AFL 'experiment' with poaching RL players. You'd be best burning that guernsey and moving on now sonny jim"
I really feel for all the young lads and laddettes who had the gullibility to be duped by the greedy backfiring AFL 'experiment'. Anyone wearing or who wore that guernsey would now no doubt be bullied at school and/or feel utter shame in spending their hard earned on being duped by a greedy, self absorbed and now self defeating organisation.

And a proportion will have watched all the other giants players, especially the many up and coming talents they have, and realised they are more worthy of their adoration. These kids would never have considered the giants, or maybe even heard their name, if it werent for the AFLs foresight in recruiting Falou =D>

Judging by the giants avg home crowds, minus their first game, a fair estimate of the "proportion" of kids Xman refers to above would be max 500. 500 kids (probably half that) for...what was Falou paid again?

Jolly good marketing there Demetriou and co =D> Jolly good indeed!

As usual youre looking at one area only. Marketing surrounding Falou would have reached many age groups, interest levels and sponsors, and all timed perfectly around the beginnings of a new expansion team
Yes, money well spent. In fact his early departure was a god send given the majority of his work was around his signing. Therefore the AFL saved 2 mil during what would have potentially been further poor performances by Falou.

Can you give us a measure of this "money well spent" you refer to Xman?
Crowd attendances would be one measure...and lets just say there's a big fat F on the Falou marketing report card there on that one

You got any measures to prove your blind support of the AFL strategy Xman?

Really? They averaged more fans than the raiders (in RL homeland) in a traditionally poor sports attendance city, and as the second expansion team.
There have been a number of media reports suggesting Falou's contract was well and truly paid for by the many media reports surrounding his recruitment.

I'm not asking for a comparison with NRL crowds Xman, I'm asking for a measure here matey. A measure of the AFL's recruitment of Falou to "bring in the masses to GWS"
Alls I could see was a big FAIL, followed by Falou, as Raider suggests, pulling the pin on a grenade and hoiking it back into AFL HQ before walking off into the sunset, back to the NRL.
Double FAIL
"Media reports" you say Xman?

I didnt see those reports showing any measures or indicators of Falous impact. Why? Cause there were none!
Seriously, this thread is fairly awesome

A whipping shed for dealing out whippins to the more simple and ignorant AFL supporters.

If those people that lived in Parramatta didn't already support Parra prior to GWS' formation, what makes you think they'll jump on board now? Honest question.

So comparing sporting clubs in Sydney in RL heartland is unfair?
How convenient!

Izzy laid the groundwork for the number 4 guernsey, and did a fantastic job of getting them sold. If GWS were smart they'd recruit a star and have him wear the number 4 to not only make sure all of those sales didn't go to waste, but instantly make that new recruit popular with the thousands of kids that already owned the #4 guernsey. If only, if only a star forward like Kurt Tippett wore the number 4...
