no
they're getting bigger on their own .. great product we peddle
they;ve double in the last quarter century

meanwhile
if it wasn't for Melbourne .... AFL crowds would be in serious trouble

Melbourne is the only city in the country where AFL crowds are .. well steady .. maybe rising slightly

other then that
they're down everywhere else & have been sliding that way for some time

oh dear 8-[
as that old bloke off Dads Army used to say

Don't Panic !! Don't Panic !!
Another ridiculous post. Crowds in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane remain steady with huge crowds continuing through the gates in Melbourne. Adelaide I will admit is a worry. That is being addressed however with the Adelaide Oval redevelopment.

BTW, did you know there is something like a ten year waiting list for membership of the West Coast Eagles. Crowds are so strong for the AFL in the west that the WA government has announced plans for a new 70,000 seat stadium.

Meanwhile, how are those Melbourne Storm crowds going? Lack of Victorian talent on the field is really hurting now that the novelty of the Storm making finals and grand finals regualarly has worn off.

Actually, Beau, I think the Crows are going okay crowd wise. The Power are the problem in the City of Churches.

The Storm will draw crowds of well in excess of 20K in their next 2 home games
Broncos , & Dragons .. thats 3 for the year
thats respectable when comparing to previous seasons

they'll get a home final
that will also get well above 20

& probably a prelim final
that will sellout

Storms going OK

now stop avoiding my post &
please address the plumetting AFL crowds in Sydney & Brisbane

They are not "plumetting". Sydney's average attendance has only dropped by a small amount. It's still averaging 28K a game at the moment and won't drop much lower. Brisbane's is only in bother because of where they are on the ladder - and because of the Suns, but their average is still the envy of the Storm. Three 20K crowds. Big deal.

Sydney's current average is padded somewhat by the Collingwood game
they have some dud encounters to come
watch it fall ....

we can't use the Titans fall in averages due to their pozzie on the ladder according to you lot

so neither can you when talking about the Lions
its a lame excuse

The Storm playing to big crowds toward the end of this season .. exposing their abundant skills to lots more Melbournians live
as well as the finals at a decent time on TV down there
( apparently 9 Melb is going to whack em on in prime time )
they will continue to attract new fans as they are a darn good footy side
its all on the up fo the boys in purple

I also mentioned the Suns in case you didn't notice. Besides, despite Brisbane's position on the ladder they are still doing WAY better than the Titans! Even the Suns are doing better than them and they're in the same ladder position - in the basement.

The Titans are Averaging over 16K
the Lions about 21K

the Gold Coast has 500K people
Brisbane 2 Million
So I think its the Titans who deserve a pat on the back based on that

& the Suns need to average 21.3K this year before they can claim to have done better then the Titans
thats what the Titans averaged in their first year

the Titans averaged 21.6 in the 2nd year & still over 20K in year 3
the Suns would need to better these numbers to claim they have been more popular
somehow ... me thinks they'll fall short .. well short

The Lions are averaging 21K not 19K
http://stats.rleague.com/AFL/crowds/brisbanel.html
The Suns are averaging 19K, 3K more than the Titans
http://stats.rleague.com/AFL/crowds/goldcoast.html

That second fact undermines the idea that the Titans are drawing better per capita than the Lions, because the Suns are beating the Titans on their own turf - in their first year as well. And that's just home games as well.

both the Titans & Suns are doing better then the Lions
the Lions should be a massive concern for the AFL .... the Reds will play to a full house this sat ... the Roar are A League Premiers ... the Broncos will be finalists in the NRL
AFL is being left behind by everyone in Brissie

And if the Suns couldn't do better then the last placed Titans
in their first year .. with all the Novelty
they should give up
they are doing better.... just
the coming years will tell the real tale

Well let's see what happens when we add the crowds for their away games shall we?

Titans Home: 16K
Titans Away: 14K

Lions Home: 21K
Lions Away: 31K

Suns Home: 19K
Suns Away: 27K

Based on that I think I can see which club is really the one in trouble.

TV ratings in the end mean nothing to the clubs.

Away attendances are important to show how well a club draws when it's away from home. Memberships in other locations play a big role in this. That's how the AFL clubs work. NRL would do well to take that on board.
