Do the AFL crew actually ever check/valid their arguments? The Swans/Lions lose money without their significant AFL grants as would most of the AFL clubs. The AFL money is core to their viability.

The NRL now has the money to provide similar support to its clubs. The grants to the clubs will next year be greater than the salary cap.

Let us deal with this nonsense that the reason that all AFL games are shown live on Foxtel has something to do with the generous spirit of the AFL to their supporters. Of course this is nonsense as it was driven by pure financial need/desire. Foxtel wants to drive up subscribers in the AFL states and saw the AFL as an opportunity and significantly increased their offer -the AFL said it is all yours at that price. This strategy has not worked - Foxtel has only an additional 20k in subscribers. So the great AFL loving community will not pay the price to see all the games.
Even withoiut foxtel the AFLs deal is better
The NRL knocked back an offer for better coverage but less money. It wasnt looking after the fans it was struggling for survival.

The NRL went with the superior offer as far as rugby league go's. They knocked back offers that were better financially.

The removal of News Limiteds first and last rights clause will see the NRL prosper.

The NRL contract more than doubled this time, and they still have plenty to offer the networks next time round. The AFL deal on the other hand was a disaster, as far as Stokes and Fox were concerned . So don't expect to much increase there AFL lovers.

Firstly the NRL has not yet completed negotiations IE obtained all the revenue associated with its rights. At this point though a minute of NRL is more valuable than a minute of AFL.

What fans wanted was more money, release from the Fox/Nine right of last refusal thru to 2027 and thirdly more exposure. The first two have happened in spades and the third will come with the next TV deal. Unlike the AFL the NRL has not yet sold all their product so that comes with the next deal when they can extract full value.

Finally NRL have shown and continue to show that they will pay to see more NRL.

The AFL crew should really start worrying about how embarrassing for them next years cable ratings will be. This site only ever shows Foxtel numbers not total cable numbers. Now that Fox is finalising the purchase of Austar they will merge their ratings numbers. NRL on Fox will lift approx 40-50%.

I'm glad the NRL stuck with 3 FTA games, although the only thing I would've changed was the second Fri game being moved to Sat, Sun or Mon FTA.

I say this because I have been saying for near 10 years that the vFL in NSW and QLD is well beyond the over exposure mark by some distance and it is really starting to hurt the code now.

I'd rather the NRL go about things like they are, slow and steady building real support, not flying in big noting oneself, telling everyone how crap the sports are they watch and that the new sport coming in will save their lives.

Yeah the vFL can get a headline for a bit, but it doesn't help out in the long run.

The AAFL got the money and far far better national FTA and foxtel coverage.

Win win.

The NRL got money but failed on TV coverage.

Win loss

Yeah the AFL would be terribly worried about their 30% increase in ratings...

Channel 7 and Fox are worried about the lack of new viewers/subscribers - that is what they paid for. Seven wanted new viewers north of the Murray and it has not happened. Fox wanted new subscribers south of the Murray and it has not happened.

Hmm yet all we hear in AFL states is: "wait until we get decent TV coverage of our sport. Our game will grow then"

Well, where's this better coverage? its crap in your own states.

No. Channel 7 have said nothing like that.

Talk is that Foxtel are dissapointed with the number of new subscriptions after the AFL deal. But they also go on to say they expected increased uptake to take time.

But in all honesty who was going to take up foxtel when AFL fans in WA SA TAS NSW and QLD get to see their team live every week without paying a cent?

AFL has ten times the ratings of NRL. The NRL just got the same dollars. How good are the NRL negotiating team?

Even now the dollars are known these nonsense claims from the AFL crew persist.

Show me how 225 million in cash less is equal.Dont you find it strange that they couldnt find a buyer for internet rights oh thats right theyve already sold 70 percent and left out telstra.Only in the land of the League.A strange place where numbers are fudged, lies are told and egos take center stage.Where men follow the yellow brick road to the Gyngall wizard who will tell you when to play your game.who will play and when you will watch it.Now if he could only give you a brain.lol
