The NRL put simply doesn't deliver the national appeal that the AFL does week after week, season after season. TV networks, media buyers and advertisers aren't stupid.... hence the AFL always achieving Australian record sporting tv rights deals.

the national appeal ?

you mean the 600K in the AFL States who watched our GF
the 1.4 Million who watched our State of origin in the AFL states
2 Million people watching just 4 games ( capitals too )
yeah.... no appeal at all is there

the TV execs are taking notice
the myth that there is no market for League in the Sthn States is being exploded to bits
the AFL TV deal is about to become the 2nd biggest ever ....
behind ours

I'm talking about the weekly appeal of the AFL which is broadcast in every market prime time. Not the novelty NRL or State of Origin matches broadcast once in a blue moon.

Keep telling yourself that Beau if it makes you feel more secure - it's like a security blanket I guess - gives you a warm fuzzy feeling? but we all know we've had a problem with the games ownership. That will be solved shortly so watch out.

Just telling it like it is pussycat. You can't handle the truth. Nevermind, it's a common trait with throwball fans and the facts/reality of sports tv rights. You'll forever be living in our shadows.

the 3 times the Storm were shown on TV in Melbourne in prime time
86K
127K
274K
probably equal to the ratings the Swans got in Sydney for all 11 home games
the 4 biggest games of AFL in Sydney probably attracted about
600K veiwers
the 4 biggest NRL games in Melbourne
1.4 Million veiwers
Rugby League it seems is more popular in Melbourne
then AFL is in Sydney
how bout you suck that up

Stop posting rubbish Raider. Seriously, give it a rest. No one believes anything you post anymore.

We all know the AFL is stronger in its non heartland areas than the NRL is in its non heartland areas. Oh and same goes for the codes in their heartlands. Just look at the AFL Grand Final ratings in Melbourne compared to the NRL Grand Final ratings in Sydney. Smashed again throwball fans. :<>

Oh dear, the lowest average for 11 years in the NRL.

Damn, not good when you're hoping to convince tv networks of your worth.
AFL beats NRL in grand final TV ratings
A hands-down ratings win to the AFL over the NRL at the weekend, thanks to a bigger metro audience, especially in the AFL heartland of Melbourne. While the AFL grand final’s national audience for the Collingwood-Geelong match was slightly better than last year,
the NRL grand final’s average was the lowest for 11 years as Manly held off the New Zealand Warriors.

The AFL grand final, won by Geelong, had a national audience of 3.525 million based on preliminary figures. Using Ten’s adjusted metro figure of 2.630 million, the match had a national audience of 3.560 million, compared with an average for the first GF and rematch last year of 3.456 million. The NRL grand final had a national audience of 3.177 million viewers, down on the 3.324 million in 2010. Here’s the AFL audience breakdown:
 •Melbourne — 1.380 million
 •Perth — 368,000
 •Brisbane — 320,000
 •Adelaide — 301,000
 •Sydney — 262,000
 •Regional audience — 788,000

Here’s the NRL audience breakdown:
 •Sydney — 1.021 million
 •Brisbane — 524,000
 •Melbourne — 347,000
 •Perth — 87,000
 •Adelaide — 48,000
 •Regional audience — 1.150 million

The 2011 AFL Grand Final was Australia's highest-ratings TV sports program of 2011.
The 2011 Toyota AFL Grand Final between Collingwood and Geelong attracted a national average audience of more than 3.5 million viewers, making it the highest rating TV sports program of 2011.

As well as being the highest rating sports program so far in 2011, the 2011 Toyota AFL Grand Final was also the fifth highest rating TV program for the year.
“This is another outstanding result in the game’s heartland but also across New South Wales and Queensland where the average national audience was more than one million viewers,â€

the AFL is struggling in our heartland .... its is on a rapid decline
the NRL's only team in AFL heartland continues to grow & the 2nd one in a few years ( the reds ) will be a smashing success
the AFL's Grand Final ratings in Melbourne were down 100K on last year with again 2 Victorian sides playing .. the same as last year

the NRL's in Sydney , despite only having 1 Sydney team playing & an unpopular one at that , nearly matched 2010's ratings with 2 Sydney Sides playing

>
another example of the rise of the NRL
& decline of the AFL
