It's a fact ... Even the head of the nrl notes this and outlines a plan of what nrl needs to do to be number 1.

The game is in trouble and needs some measures to be taken to fix it... As if the chorus of nrl fans on other forums aren't enough, listen to two former players on the matter ... See link below

http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/sport/ ... -are-down/

Interesting listen from some former players re: what needs to be done to address the drop in interest on both crowds and tv rating. I like how they just don't complain but actually put forward some solutions. What do others think that needs to be done to help get people to the game and stop the declining tv ratings?

For mine, I think they need to play state of origin outside of the home and away season. Truth is they could play SoO on Christmas Day and it would still be as massive as it is now. I don't see any reason to compromise the season proper for this series.

League - 2
League - 3
League - (4 or 5)
League - 6

Better luck next year :drunk:

AFL still outrages nrl week after week ??? Which has been shown over and over. I agree SOO is a massive event and the AFL would love the exposure the SoO gets, but for week in week out support AFL kills nrl. Both on crowds and on tv. Sure the marquee events do alright , in prime time they would want to, but reality is a drop in ratings and crowds this year for nrl. AFL had a 63 percent rise on ratings this year in sydney according to big footy.

So desperate are nrl to try a best AFL in ratings they 1. Want to add nz in 2. Guesstimate regional figures at the high end, 3. Now want to not count ratings from Fox, 4. Dispute fox figures as double counting (cause people with fox are also watching on Fta and have a set top box to boot), and want to claim ratings for two games on a Friday night.

AFL does none of this. They will point out to when the games are on with Dave g even stating that the later time slot should raise figures by 15 to 20 percent catching the casual viewer.

Anyway, AFL is still the biggest sport in this country by a country mile . You can deny it all you like bit that's the reality and something most nrl acknowledge. That's a fact :). I know it's arrogant to say so but it just is. That doesn't mean nrl is a bad game or not popular, just that it has been poorly run whilst the AFL has been run well. Just ask most nrl followers .

The AFL GF will still probably win, despite being shown in the day. The AFL PF was also the highest rating game in Australia after that, and the other prelim 5th. After that we dominated the rest :\:

The only anomalies are the RL SOO, which are standalone events like the WC, Olympics etc. They are irrelevant when comparing the biggest league in Australia.

So AFL v NRL in Australia will be :
1 AFL GF
2 NRL GF
3 AFL prelim
4 NRL prelim
5 AFL prelim
6 AFL ANZAC day
7-100 A fL about 80% of them

I don't know why nrl people have this preoccupation on comparing themselves to AFL?? Little brother syndrome maybe ?

I mean, nrl admin was so concerned about trying to match the AFL tv deal they forgot about the supporter and sold their soul to channel 9. And even then they didn't match it. They just need to worry about the nrl and drop trying to match the AFL.

NZ exists. I wonder what the most popular sport on TV in NZ is? RU by any chance?

I wonder if NRL fans in NZ add NRL ratings in Australia to show RL is more popular in NZ compared to RU? :(/

Face it, AFL v NRL ratings in Australia is a victory to the AFL. Claiming NZ figures is pathetic.

And SOO is a great product. It provides nsw and qld with a traditional rivalry which drags in many occasional views, just like The Olympics does for swimming or athletics. Doesn't mean these are the most popular sports in Australia though, these are one-off events.

The AFL is the true TV ratings champion of Australia! =D>
