And many of the AFLs blockbusters are only shown on FTA in 1 or 2 smaller markets
why that may be true>> Home Markets still get to see the big matches>
and Melbourne your biggest matches sees most of the big games.
where as NRL 5 exclusive FOX games>> limited >>
I bet Melbourne sees as many blockbuster AFL games a sydney sees blockbuster NRL games.
Melbourne on have 3 FTA games on average this year.
Yes, Melbourne viewers will see more blockbusters because they show there best games nearly every Friday night on FTA. It's good to see that you've finally seen the light.

Incorrect. Plenty of friday night games are not the best game of the round, or even close to it

Ooh dear down by more than 15% . More and more pathetic everyday. In the end I guess there was just one to many games over by half time

commonwealth games
I think the game style seen this season has also involved more congestion and pressure which is less attractive to neutral fans. The media and fans have picked up on this and are pressuring the AFL to make rule changes to open up play

Ooh I forgot about Commonwealth games hangover. That's a good excuse, I'd go with that one more often.
The game has been an eyesore ever since the first bounce, a hundred odd years ago.

2 of our 7 rounds were significantly effected by this event, plus being shown on the same network. It has nothing to do with a hangover

Well it looks like we've hit a problem with collating the ratings for the year. The main man Wookie went off the reservation for a few weeks leaving the numbers blank before giving us a few more details this week.
Here is what we know: NRL Fox ratings are up 14%. AFL Fox ratings are down 2%. The 2 weeks of the Comm games badly effected both codes numbers. The NRL were down by several 100k's each round but the AFL got absolutely smashed. They dropped 1.1M in the first week & probably close to 2M in the 2nd.
We don't know how FTA is currently tracking but I suspect the AFL is down much more than the 14% they have dropped on Fox. The NRL on the other hand made up most of it's lost numbers for the Comm games in the last 2 rounds.
Overall: The NRL is having a stellar year and are trending upward. The AFL have had a HUGE drop off.
A mate of mine reckons Wookie has vacated the battlefield because he can't bring himself to publish the catastrophic AFL numbers. Of course I slapped him down immediately & told him Wookie doesn't work like that.
I'll keep an eye on developments & give updates as required.

It didn't seem to affect NRL PTV to any extend .
Please, tell us the one about how they couldn't work out how to change channel

Again, facts show secondary channels rate far less than primary channels. The storm alone are a perfect example of this

Yeah that's great pal. Thanks.
Now onto real facts - the numbers - the raw numbers. No if's, but's, maybe's or excuses. NRL having a tremendous year. The AFL are collapsing.

I'm a vicderpian AFL fan ..one of the brainwashed cult members
AFL is advertised as on 7 mate or 7..2 Or whatever while comm games are on
I turn tv on .to ch 7 ..I see swimming ..running & a variety of sports .
I'm not really interested in that ..I want to see my beloved collingthorne play .
What do I do ..how do I change the channel ?
What is this black thing in my hand with buttons & numbers on it ?
Do I ring the colicovision helpline & ask how to solve this problem ?
Aw well it's too tough ...I'll just watch the comm games ...

Allowing for the significant impact the commonwealth games had on the AFLs initial figures it still appears the AFLs TV ratings may be down so far. Having said that the crowds and ratings are well up so it is one factor only. I have my theory as to why ratings may be soft.
As for your comments about Wookie, how about giving the guy a break. He explained he's been battling ill health.
