Great work there Q.
The one thing I take from all that is the Sun's home game out drawing every NRlilL game this round.
An AFL expansion club in RL heart land.
With NRlilL games having matches containing.....
Ladder leader in one.
Reining champs in another.
Newcastle at home for the third.
And league power club in the fourth

The Dragons result is, well, dreadful. Must be good (or bad) reasons for such a crap attendance.

It’s apparently the rain this time around! As it only rains or bad weather during nrl games and only around the venue where the game is played and on the fans who are thinking or attending the game

Maybe watching the SOO on TV is wearing them out.

Lol every year the same .
SOO has a huge impact on the crowds & ratings .
Yes crowds are bad due to players being out on rep duty( AFL fans will have to google that) .
Hence low numbers .
Quolls you seems to have an IQ above that of a wilted houseplant..which is rare for a fumbler .
Yet you ask about a reason . You're starting to worry me
Lol
You can't be serious .
It happens every year .
Without fail .
The upside is WED night wil make up for it .
Possibly the highest rating game of any code this year .
ANZ will be sold out .
So there is a huge upside to counter the downside .

Crowds are traditionally low for many games regardless of origin.

Do rl people have difficulty watching more than a couple of games? Better not add that extra game then.

Soo will be huge Wednesday night ... hardly helps the nrl in any way but yes good for rl.

As your mate has pointed out you can dismiss scheduling when it comes to AFL then trumpet it when it comes to rl. Soo could easily be played at seasons end with no impact on ratings or participation it is that successful and ingrained.

But if it impacts so much on the regular season, which imo, is what the game is really all about, is it a positive for the NRL overall. Its a bit like “don’t worry about the other 192 games a year we have 3 great games”
And if, as it has been discussed, the NRL separates the “packages” for the next TV rights, where does that leave the regular season except dimished in importance?

Yeah Im sure that does wonders for the crowds over the season though. Even the ones outside of Origin. Compared to the AFL, your crowds are pretty much fuck all.

And yes, Im well aware that theres an attendance culture at the AFL that doesnt exist in other codes, but theres an origin culture that only exists at the NRL and they want to give the AFL folks shit about that in every other thread, so compartively shit NRL crowds are a fair go.

In 2012, the new ARLC predicted that crowds by 2017 were supposed to average 20,000 - just under half the average AFL attendance. Instread they went backwards from 16,423, with 2017 being the lowest year since. At 15,032 - 2019 is currently tracking as the second lowest since the ARLC was introduced, and the second lowest season average since 2004.

But yeah Origin will make up for that. Sure.
Nice rant pal lololololol!!!!!!!! Don't worry.......it'll all be over after Wednesday night and you and your fumbling mates can relax till next years juggernaut !!!!!!!

And here's a beautifully written article about crowds in Australia entitled "Why are we so worried about attendances!!!. A great objective article.......magnificently articulated by a master wordsmith!!!

Here's a couple of quotes:

"Fans and pundits need to essentially ignore the AFL’s attendance figures. It’s a statistical anomaly in Australian sport."

"In context, NRL crowds are likely fine".

Yep......couldn't have said it better myself. I urge all posters here to read the article in full.......it's a beauty!!!!

Juggernaut. :(/
The AFL have had 14 games over 60000 so far.
Expect many many more.
And SOO, hmm? Zero.
How 'bout the premier league, hmm? Zero too.

You seriously need to adjust your interpretation of a "juggernaut"

The AFL are the only juggernaut in this respect.

A well written article. A comma here or there and some parenthesis may have helped to break up some long sentences but hey, being picky. And who am I to talk as a perennial non proof reader on this site :)

So what Wookie seems to be saying is yes the AFL crowds are great... outstanding... but we really should not use this as a bench mark for other codes. I see his point but if you are comparing codes .. arguing one is better or more supported than the other, then surely crowd numbers that are significsnt higher than the “opposition” is something point out and indeed I feel, relevant to the discussion. I think saying nrl crowds aren’t that bad comparatively to other sports generally is different to saying AFL crowds shits a over nrl crowds ... and most sports crowds. Just because it is the best does not make it irrelevant surely.

I will also point out the boasting of soo crowd figures ... which is rightly so I believe... an anomaly, yes, but relevant.

Now will I proof read this... nup :)

Oh ... I fib ... I did see one thing and change it lol

"It’s a statistical anomaly in Australian sport."
But not world sport.
The AFL are ahead of every single league in the world except the NFL, EPL and Bundasleague in this respect.
The fourth greatest attended league on the planet.
And the only truely world class league in this country in this respect.

The nrlol once or twice had over a crowd of 60k in a H&A season for a game!

In nearly 100 years

In around the early 2000s they were second most highest average behind gridiron but the introduction of gws & gcs has taken the average down a bit

But for crowd average to % of the population AFL is decades ahead of any code of the world

Interesting stat is the college football in the America
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source= ... 8931145625

Some of the college teams are pulling 90k plus averages for season

Tables shows that they've never had a single h&a match pull a 60k crowd.
The AFL did it twice this weekend. =D
