Where are you getting Brisbane having two oval stadiums from ? If Victoria Parl gets built the Gabba will be torn down. I think the plan was for it to become a green
Space.

I think we agree Mount Gravatt is out ? Yes?

Gabba As it is is heading toward its end of life - Beyound a refurb? So leaves two options - 1 rebuild the Gabba. 2. Victoria park (which means Gabba will go).

A possible 3rd option is a partial rebuild of Gabba with commitment to complete after the Olympics.

oh dear god fwed.. the mo^ng is palpable in here this morning     :(/ :(/

I'll put it in terms that a fumbler might be able to understand ... might
The QLD premier will be left with no option , like his predecessor .... when the QLD treasury tell him what QLD can afford to build , what it will cost to build at Victoria park & the Gabba can't be used for the Olympics

It will be irrelevant want he wants , when he is given the figures ....
the only thing that will matter is what QLD can afford

again
have a guess fwed .... have a guess what will happen

So the two options given a new oval stadium is requires in 8 years - where will this be built? If you are still thi king Mount Gravatt - I think that is the least likely - no commentators are even mentioning it nowadays as the oval stadium.

Again - not sure where you are getting there being two ovals? No ond has mentioned that.

Ofc it will be Mt Gravatt , theres a site there big enough & ready to go designated for sport already.
commentators Fwed ?
comentators ?      :(/ :(/ :(/

who gives a rats arse what those clueless idiots think :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

there is NO viable alternative

the labor govts plan was howled down because it was an unpopular govt & anything they do & said at the time was poorly received
& their stadium plan was a poor plan ... but not the site, it was & is the logical choice ... just the venue to be built there under their plan wasn't.
Build a suitable venue there & the ney sayers will come on board eventually.

Get ready for fumbling bumbling & missing Mt Gravatt .... 2033 it is

I’ve got no problem with a state of the art stadium at Mount Gravatt personally - however I hear there was no plan nor coating re : infrastructure around it - like transportation. I still don’t think it will be there - but if it is I’ll be the first to to acknowledge you were right. I’d be very surprised though but given what has gone on so far -certainly possible.

For mine - it would not surprise me if they rip down half the Gabba - with a commitment to complete following Olympics.

Personally, I think a Victoria park is the best option - 65000 capacity.

So I’ve agree on a new stadium - do you think they’ll spend the 4 to 6 billion on it (likely to blow way out) and not stage the opening ceremony there ?

Did the Broncos need infrastructure around it for 10 years ?
The Commonwealth games ?

nope
it was fine , some improvements might be done eventually but its not essential for the games.

The Gabba is getting nothing , its only hope for the future was if it became the main Olympic stadium ... but alas .. its too small & can't be made any bigger. Victoria park would be the perfect choice to replace it too.... except ... its got a school there & the cost to build there makes it unviable.
It simply cannot be justified.

The growing opposition to any stadium there is quite extensive too , but isn't being reported in the main stream media who continue to claim a stadium at Victoria park is the preferred option which is utter crap . agendas & vested interests are being exposed here. [-( [-( [-( [-(

A small facebook group of upper middle class yuppies - which you get with any development - NIMBY types. I think the save Albert Park mob are still hoping to have the F1 cancelled lol. Plus, a new green space will be created at the Gabba cite when it is torn down (should VP occur).

Guess all we have to do now is wait. We both agree a new stadium is on the cards - just where it will be - which I do not really care about to be honest - the question is - if they do build a spanking new multibillion dollar stadium wouldn't you think they would want to show it off with the opening ceremony?

small ?      :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/
sure fwed , sure ... keep reading all the main stream press telling everyone there is a lot of support for Victoria park , when thats crap & there actually isn't
its quite the movement & is growing .... If Victoria park didn't cost so much & there wasn't a school there , it gets the nod all day.
Shame eh.

And no to the Mt Gravatt hosting the opening & closing ceremonies , they'll want them in the city centre & there will be a venue there befitting to host them
as well as Soccer & Rugby 7's

Suncorp Stadium.

I went to the site - it has 1300 followers. That is small and niche at best.

But I take your point re: not just looking at support articles - and will be reading more broadly.

An example of the Lunacy present right there

The President of the Brisbane organising committee
" As an example, he mentions Optus Stadium in Perth, a privately funded stadium that became financially and culturally successful "

Optus oval cost
1.6 Bill, & that blew out from an original est of 900 mill

Victoria Park
6 billion ( plus)

people playing with their willys about this stadium need to be called on their delusions    :(/ :(/

Where are you getting this 6 billion estimate -

"Mr Quirk’s review recommended replacing the Gabba rebuild plan with a new “greenfield” stadium at Victoria Park, at a cost of up to $3.4 billion.".

I mean - it will probably end up at 6 billion butI'm not seeing that as the cost of the VP stadium? But maybe I missed something. I have heard a total budget of 7.1 bil

The Federal and Queensland Governments have agreed to a $7.1bn “funding envelope” for the Games.

thats what it would cost to put that venue up there, with all associated costs
6 billion plus

the Mt Gravatt /Suncorp plan about half that ish

only deluded fools seriously believe QLD should fork out that sort of money , when there are far cheaper options that will get the job done.
