This is just the AFL spitballing ideas. Unlike the NRL the AFL administrators are constantly looking to innovate and improve the product.
The recognise that late season games can be meaningless so are throwing around ideas to improve the fan experience. Given the NRL has copied the same final structure, no doubt the same situation would exist there. But of course the NRL administrators do not give a rats about the fans so it isn't even on their radar.
No doubt if the AFL go ahead with this, the NRL will follow a few years later as they do with just about everything.

They've been trying to bring international football into there game for years, no ones interested. They still try though , you've got to give e'm that.

The commission, which came into power this month after a protracted delay, acted on a recommendation to adopt a new finals series model, in which the top four and bottom four teams will be split into separate pools.
The former ARL used the model in 1995-96

Say you were sitting a maths exam and answered a question in a certain way. You then decided to change the answer, but saw the smarter person next to you had the same answer you originally had, if you went back to that original answer you copied.
