Canberra will have it's own AFL team. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when. The same is true of Adelaide and Perth getting their own NRL teams.

Canberra had a population as of the last Census of over 350,000. Geelong, who have a club, only had a population of a little under 150,000 at the same time. I think that is ample to cope with an AFL club and Startrack Oval is not far from ready to host one. It just needs a few thousand more in capacity.

AFL would be more likely to put a team in Tasmania than Canberra. Over half a million people there.

Canberra is only three hours from a city that is even bigger than the one near Geelong if we're going to go that way. AFL "dominance" is irrelevant - after all it didn't stop the AFL from establishing the Giants in a hostile environment. Canberra would be no different. Tasmania - I don't know why there isn't a team there already. Mystifying.

Geelong is less than an hr from Melb ,in AFL heartland.

Canb is 3 hrs from Syd which is a long long way from AFL heartland .

Syd has two teams already ,one struggling big time .

as i said dimbshit dazza, GWS have only been around for 3 years, the other NRL teams 60 plus years, a much longer time frame to build a fan base. GWS already has a similar sized fan base.

the figures were posed earlier so the research has been done.

Sydney is a city of 5 million+ people,l and two teams may well prove to be one too many in the long run. Canberra isnt.

Doesn't matter. The AFL don't look at whether or not it's an AFL city. They look at pure numbers. They'll move in on Canberra. Startrack Oval is a good venue. If it wasn't for the fact that there isn't (AFAIK) a good venue in Newcastle they'd target that city as well. I'm not saying it's right. I'm saying that's what they'll do.
