AFL TV deal $1.253 billion.
NRL TV deal $1.025 billion.

I call that close. And the NRL closes the gap with buy rates on Foxtel.

The TV ratings overall are also close, although admittedly the NRL need State of Origin to prop that up. I blame Nine for that shortfall.
go and research the rest non broadcast & club revenues :(/
then try and work out how NRL is anywhere near as popular as to what they claim it is :\:

the NRL base their game around TV ratings! some 5000k boxes places around the country
yet their no broadcast revenue is shit.
their club revenue, is around less than half of that of a small AFL club like the Kangaroos.
the sponsorship levels, crowds, membership & merchandise figures are shit! QLD & NSW are the 1st and 3rd highest paid dollar figures in the advertising & sponsorship markets!
according several surveys their participation levels are vastly lower than the AFL & Soccer

for a game to claim to be the biggest in the country by some or second biggest in the country by others
just raised some pointers after the broadcast deals was mentioned :\:

Yeah, Billion TV deal, 3 countries outside Australia wanting a team in the NRL, having all the highest ratings games on TV in the region and a top 20 average crowd figure for a football code on this planet. Yeah I can see why you'd think it was bad, you have 4 states to call home.

Oh, and that's all you'll ever have, and that can also be eaten away over a generation or two, LOL.

anyone can be interested in starting up a franchise in any sport

i mean fark singapore wants an a-league team

the difference is, you have to actually do it and put your money where your mouth is

seems like the nrl believe none of these prospective nrl franchisers are capable of doing that hence their disinterest in expansion

its been what, 7 yrs now since the titans came in? whens the next nrl team coming in? do you even know? there will be another 2 teams in the a-league by 2017, possibly another AFL team - i wouldn't be surprised if there was no addition to the nrl by then

Worked out well for that other global sport out here aye with Basketball, what was it, two seasons or one?

Yeah RL isn't looking at expansion, that's why they have a png team in the qld cup this year, a Fiji team in the NSW cup to join with the Auckland Vultures in a tri nations RL comp below the top tier with a Perth side having being played for the last few years in the u18 comp.
Then there are three or 4 qld sides all battling each other using whatever propaganda they think LOL they can use to get one up on the other new teams trying to get in.

Oh, how can we forget the Central Coast bears, one team that was screwed from the start.

Yeah naaa yeah, dunno, maybe, could very well not be looking at expansion as you say.

Maybe if your code could get a club to last 7 years, you'd realise soon enough there is no need to expand for expansions sake, derp.

(tax payer funded fraud for a wc bid putting fake arse teams in where they were always going to fail) Sounds like Sokka to me.

The NRL will add teams in 2018 in Perth & Brisbane on the back of a 1.6 billion dollar media rights deal
The ARLC will have revenues of 500 million a year
Average crowds will reach 20, 000
Memberships will be at 400, 000
The ARLC will bank close to 100 million in profits in 2018 alone

The club grant will reach 10 million per club
More then most LOL clubs total revenue :(/ :_<> :(/

The NRL will be near unstopable over the next 20 years

I have to agree that longevity in the A League is not it's strong suit. It's my view that this is because the FFA is trying for quantity instead of quality.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking the game. The A League is a good competition. I just don't think it's being run with the soccer fan in mind. I think it's being run with the sole purpose of getting the World Cup here, and whilst that would be fantastic and we could do it on venues alone, the administration is getting way ahead of itself. Get the game developing first and take advantage of the numbers at local level.
