Western Sydney Wanderers fans have lashed back at the charging and attempted banning of a man after a cache of flares was allegedly discovered in his car on Tuesday.

Police charged a 25-year-old Baulkham Hills man after a search of his car, which was parked illegally in Marsden St, Parramatta, revealed more than 50 marine flares.

It was the night the Wanderers took on Melbourne Victory at Pirtek Stadium.

The flares were seized and the man was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with possessing bright light/distress signal in a public place.

Police also made an application to Football Federation Australia to have the man banned from all FFA-affiliated matches.
