The headmaster at my children's school (from Victoria) is a mad AFL fan and has been trying to get all kids into AFL, in one way or another for the last few years without much success. So how does one cunning AFL diehard get around this you may ask, he enforces it.

Here is how it panned out this year so far.
Term 1 - Auskick,
Term 2 - The headmaster arranges more AFL flavoured activities in PE, coupled with a convenient visit from some AFL players. This followed by some friendly encouragement to play it for interschool sport next term on assembly etc.

My young bloke was saying he wanted to give it a go. Much to my disgust, but I thought, it is his decision, so give it a go.That was until I heard today that the above has been leading to this. Both my daughter and son only have two options for interschool sport (this hasn't been communicated to loudly to parents mind you). First Drama, second AFL.

So if you want to play any sport that involves a ball next term boys and girls, it has to be AFL says headmaster Hitler :salute: . This is up there with one of the most pathetic, manipulative things I think I have seen in my life. :-+

I am now considering not letting him play AFL as I am disgusted by how manipulative it is. :/; [-( :-k [-X
I would like some more clarification before I give my point of view.

It is a once off game? A series of games? The only sporting activity for the rest of the year?
Is it the headmaster calling the shots? Quite often it is the sports teachers or head of sport who call the shots on this kind of thing. If its interschool sport they also have the option of doing a normal school day ( or at least I assume).

OK got the note home asking us for our normal contribution to pay for bus trips etc and its AFL or Drama.

This is a disgrace and much to my sons discuss, he will be doing drama as this is a disgrace

Seems this is one-speciallity sort of thing not interschool sports. i.e. Auskick

So what interschool sports are available???
:[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[] :[]
Wrong, were did I say that dipshit. At our school we pay for the bus fares to attend interschool sport.

AFL is the only interschool, get with the program.

At the end of the day, if a headmaster came to a Victorian school and done the same thing with RL, you would be up in arms. Not in here going, give him/her a go
Well it is not possible as there is no inter school RL in Victoria - I asked you earlier if you have actually spoken to the headmaster - have you????

Agree, as I said. My young bloke was going to give it a go, but not under this circumstances. He has already done auskick and doing it in PE

Problem is there just isn't the presence of rl in Victoria for that to happen. It would be like him trying to enforce gridiron or Gaelic football. Whilst I agree with you re choice, the fact he can do this is a reflection of the presence of Aussie rules on the area.
Sorry Phelpsy, that is not correct. The fact he can do this is a reflection of abuse of his power across the community. There is a small pocket of interest in AFL, but it is very small. But there is a massive push in our school from top down. Sports that the kids play (on weekends) at our school are soccer, RL and RU.
How do you know that have you done a straw pole on all the students - again I am not calling you a liar but have you asked the headmaster??? My son had to do soccer one year which he has always played AF - I thought there was a hidden agenda until I rang the school who said they could ONLY offer one sport being soccer as the rest of the schools in their inter school zone were not playing AF that year and they were forced into not offering it! Again have you actually asked the principle???? Another thing with the recent spat of personal injuries to junior RL insurance premiums may have made it unaffordable to the school. Again I would talk to the principle before making accusations!

There never has been AFL previously here either, it has just propped up and hey presto, you have to play it, is the rule at our school. Why are you the only dumpo on here that doesn't see this as a problem. Get your head out of your rectum

So no classes running for school that day, do you have to go do drama or AR?

If you feel that the principal is promoting his sport over the normal local sports you should let him know. You should Email, send a letter or go see him. After you get his response you might be happy with the reasons behind his choices, or you might convince him of the error of his ways. At worst nothing changes but then you are no worse off then when you started.

It's just about never a bad thing playing sport, or doing drama for that matter so letting your son attend might be the way to go anyway. But if you are not happy then you have the choice of not paying and not sending your son. Good luck I hope you sort our your issue.

Funny how the Fumble soldiers ,pretend that this is wrong ,but then go on to try to explain ,why it is alright.

& that is the big difference between the "CULT THINKING" associated with their sport & other sports.

No, I think most AFL posters are agreeing that if it is indeed how dogs has stated then it is not good. It's no reflection on AFL at all but on the headmaster. I think the only thing being questioned or explored is whether it is actually as dogs has described that's all. Most discussion has been reasonably sensible except for those who want to turn it into some code war type thing ... Which you are one of.
