they didnt have to and didnt like usual faceless and not making a noise like usual
it is not completely out side of the NRL's jurisdiction.
they could of done something about it, lead the way. name and shame the person. led a campaign that it isn't on.

similar to what the AFL has done with the racial slurs last year.

Milnes comment, while distasteful, was an insult and no more directed at the gay community than the average NRL fan who calls AFL "GAyFL". BTW I don't see any AFL fans calling RL by a homophobic name

Where as Stigs comments were clearly directed at the gay community and were about as homophobic as you can get.

As I said, my understanding is that Milne's comments went beyond what was stated - possibly to the same level as Stig's. They were both homophobic, and don't forget that Milne did it again to Harry O'Brien. That second time it was St Kilda who acted and not the AFL. So the fine had no effect.

Honestly, I don't think the two situations are any different. Using the "gay" term in any way other than correctly should start being punished properly. Milne should have been suspended and he wasn't. If Stig was still an active player I would be making the same call, and I believe that he would have been.

From the point of view of the negative effect on the gay community, gravity is irrelevant. A smear is a smear and it should be punished.
