27 leagues in New South Wales and I'll count the NRL to make it 28 (Wikipedia)
1 in the ACT (Wikipedia)
23 leagues in Queensland (Wikipedia)
As previously established there are 3 leagues in Victoria, 1 in SOuth Australia, 2 in Western Australia, 1 in Tasmania and I think it was 4 in the Northern Territory.

Total Open Age leagues for rugby league: 63

Now for AFL my source is TLPG's website
50 leagues in Victoria and I'm counting the AFL for that number
25 leagues in South Australia
(75 already!!)
26 leagues in Western Australia
12 leagues in Tasmania
12 leagues in New South Wales
1 league in the ACT
8 leagues in Queensland
6 leagues in the Northern Territory (TLPG's website says four but he doesn't have the two summer competitions listed)

Total Open Age leagues for AFL: 140

MORE THAN DOUBLE!!

(And I didn't even take into account any multiple divisions, which would have made the margin even greater!)

23 Groups/Comps in the CRL ( NSW Country ) including the ACT ( group 8)who are under the control of the CRL at senior level.

then the Metropolitan NSWRL ( Sydney )
there are 11 District leagues in Sydney
Penrith , Parramatta , Wests, Canterbury ,Balmain , Souths , Manly , Norths , St George , Cronulla & Easts
then there are the junior rep comps
Harold Matts & SG Ball ... U18's & U16's ( 18 sides in each including Perth & Melbourne  )
then the NSW cup
then the Ron Massey cup ..
the Sydney Shield ....
the Tertiary Cup .. or old University Shield

for a total of 17 leagues in Sydney under the control of the NSWRL
that's
40 in total ... in NSW alone

Partipants huh? In order to participate you have to have clubs. To have clubs compete you have to have leagues. So my argument is valid.

I want links to these district competitions.

Anyway, even if it's 40 and not 27 that still only makes 76 nationwide!! AFL still kills you at 140!! By the way - I wasn't counting junior leagues so take them off your count.

Was touch rl two years ago lol !!! no. I won't revert to swearing or name calling as it just demeans me to do so and I think it shows a poor argument if you have to resort to that. Touch is touch ... Just because rl bought it doesn't make it rl. As shown, union have also tried to claim it. Fact is, it's its own sport in its own right and rl in Australia has bought it. What is touch in other countries where rl didn't buy it?

You clown, Touch was invented in the 60's by the rabbitohs to help them keep fit in the off season.

Yep, I know it was invented in Sydney .. Doesn't make it rl. AFL was invented to keep cricketers fit too??? The two are different sports. Even the press release states that the two sports are working together ... Two sports? Have a read. And as I posted, union had also set up some rules .. See above re irb

Again, was touch football considered to be rl two years ago. If you look at the web pages touch is played all over the world. It is it's own sport on its own right. The MOU signed between the 'two' sports states they will work together . Do you think those in Europe playing touch think they are playing rl ? Of course not.

he somehow missed this bit that was from the same article

In August 2013, Touch Football Australia and the National Rugby League formed a merger, reunifying the two entities. This recognises that Touch and Rugby League are essentially the same sport, contact and non-contact forms, and that there are significant benefits to both through reunification.
