well the AFL event has a ceremony and there are plenty of kiwis involved in that.

Id love to see any official or even unofficial statement saying 25% of a sporting events players must be from either nation for it to be considered a real ANZAC day event.

I don't understand how Australians competing AGAINST New Zealanders would honour ANZAC day. If it was a combined Aus and NZ team taking on the Turks, then perhaps....

TBH I don't know how sport of any kind (including Australian Football) is a celebration of ANZAC day. Tends to make uncomfortable comparisons about sacrifice and courage which glorifies sport and trivialises war, but that's another topic altogether.
