Wanting stars and getting stars are two different things. The salary cap ensures this. The Storm will drop off soon enough and wont their few fans desert in droves

We've already lost fans thanks to the combination of Collins, Doyle etc. What we have now is hardcore and won't drop any further.

The test was the year we didn't get premiership points and a guaranteed wooden spoon. We passed.

Its pretty clear what drives Falou, and it aint success thats for sure

Poor poor NRL. Had a perfect chance to stick it to the AAFL and failed dismally.
So if its simply money, then why wouldnt he have stuck on the lucrative, yet meaningless contract he was on with the AFL?

And if you think about it with "success" in mind, your second sentence is quite acutely contradicted by what you've written in your first sentence...which in itself was useless dribble. Xman FAIL #-o
its not only money, just primarily. Unfortunately the NRL just arent wealthy enough
So ahh :?> lemme get this straight. You think its a bad thing for the NRL not to have employed a man who is "primarily" interested in money rather than performance? Going off your thoughts on successful business and the AFLs connections to child slave labour in india, I'm not surprised at all!

*insert Xman as employer interviewing a potential new recruit*

Xman: So ahh tell me son, ahem, I couldnt be bothered to read your entire application #-o because ahh I watch television shows for no other reason than that they are on #-o #-o so tell me what is it that 'primarily' drove you to apply for this position? why do you want the job?

Potential employee: Ahh well. It's the money. I want the money. And I want more than what you're offering. That's basically it mate, so are you gunna give me the job or what?

Xman: Fukk Yes. We'd be stupid not to. Imagine letting someone with your primary motivations slip to another employer who might pay you the dosh. You're hired son! Welcome aboard :D

I can see the comedy in that. But any insinuation that the NRL have actually lost out here is simply dumb. Young Folau has simply been corrupted by a corrupted organisation, it's little surprise he's lost his morals after being used solely as a marketing tool, albeit unsuccessfully, for 2 pivotal years of his sporting career. Oh the NRL have lost, big time! As Raiderdave claimed on many occasions they had a great opportunity to sign Izzy to an NRL team in WS and gloat endlessly. What did they do? Failed to sign him!

As for Izzy, poor guy, making mega bucks every way he turns

In a huge blow for rugby league and an embarrassment for the administration, Folau will not accept a formal offer to join Parramatta next season.

So your attitude. Not signing someone who's primary employment motivation is money is a massive loss.

The NRL have simply stuck to their moral and ethical guns. Sure if we got him there was the opportunity to enjoy the gloating. But to sign a bloke who hasnt played for 2 years, who's lost 17 odd kilos, for the money a superstar deserves? That's consistent with what the AFL did and found out it was a failure.   Your simplistic views know no bounds Xman. Yeah the NRL lost out big time

The only real loss for the NRL was a loss of face. I dont know him or anything but I feel that if he could he would have played for Parra but the deal just couldnt get done (was there a time factor in this for him to be signed to play next year?). His only option in the end might have been to sign with Union otherwise he would be playing in some local league for peanuts next year.

Massive loss because they bragged about what a great signing he would be because of the negative impact on the AFL.

Would love to see that tested should the Storm languish in the bottom half of the table for a few seasons. Guess we'll never see that though with News Ltd/ARLC/NRL there to ensure the Storm make finals and grand finals every year by taking money from other clubs to prop up the financial basketcase that is the Storm. What a farce

Managed this one well indeed eh. :_<> :_<> :_<>
Folau debacle totally mismanaged

IT'S hard to dislike Israel Folau but recent events indicate his nickname should be Dizzy, not Izzy. Clearly, he can't make a decision on his own when it comes to his sporting future. But to hold him purely responsible for what is nothing short of a farce that only the NRL can produce would be wrong. Salary cap auditor Ian Schubert and the officials who run the game can wear a large slab of the blame for all this negative publicity surrounding Folau. If the situation was reversed, the AFL would have treated a prize recruit from rugby league royally and a deal would have been done within 48 hours to ensure maximum exposure from a feel-good story. Instead, Schubert and others have effectively driven Folau into a spin and the next person who could be run out of the game before he gets a chance to return is the biggest footballing star in either rugby code, Sonny Bill Williams. If the NRL can't get its act together and realise the value Williams brings to the code - and if registration curve-balls are thrown at him - expect a similar result to the Folau debacle at the Eels.
