Ok stewie me boy lets clarify this. RD has classicly clarified the AFL supporters, particularly those in the southern states as..."Brainwashed merinos" With your quote above, and Xmans parroting of it, we can seriously only assume this is correct right? I mean seriously...answer me bitch

Again. Seriously. It's either they enjoy their league...or its Raiders assessment. It's either/or stewie me boy :D ...Though I'd like to think there's diversity and it's a bit of both! Go the southern Aus cities...Yay!

Read. Consider. And then post.

How many people tune in to watch minor sports in the Olympics, like archery, table tennis, badminton, shooting? Yet they would never consider watching these sports on a regular basis because of lack of interest. They are watching the spectacle called the Olympics.

Same for SOO. Fans tune in to watch a traditional rivalry between one state and another. Yet these same fans couldn't be bothered to flick the TV on, or change channels to watch RL on other occasions. For them its mundane without the added attraction of the event.

 The best part of your post above Xman? The lil wink after the first para  You actually think you're making a sound point

Ahhh tell me this my merino friend. How many 'Australians' watch 'argentina' vs 'canada' in the olympic archery, table tennis, badminton, shooting? And then how many south and western australians watch RL at SOO time? It's one in 15 for the latter and their "team" aint even competing.

So Xman and Stewie I urge you again to answer my question. Are these 300,000 southerners who watch RL year in year out brainwashed merinos? Or do they enjoy their league. It's definitely either/or :D

I wont be as harsh as Dave, though he may well be correct. But I'd take a pot shot and say around 1/4 of a million are loving their RL. The others? Brainwashed merinos fo sho!

Neither. They hear the hype surrounding SOO and tune in to see which state will prevail. The Lulz are massive when NSW lose repeatedly. The dummy spitting EPIC. Then when the NRL is on Friday night they give it a wide birth because without the spectacle of SOO RL is dead boring.

Why does Soo out rate the nRL GF KE? It's because like I said before, SoO is seen as more of an event with many people watching just because of the "rivalry" between NSW and QLD*. The fact that about 700,000 less people watch the nRL GF than the SoO surely means something.

*NSW and QLD are just the team names. You know it's not a real SoO when you have people who were born and played rl in New Zealand playing for an Australian state!

Hello Dave! Hello!

The AFL have 8 overlapping games a weekend. The NRL barely 1. The AFLs advantage in audience will never come out in a cummulative count.

Double the crowds shows the AFLs advantage in blockbuster games.

27 crowds over 50k to 2 shows the AFLs advantage in blockbuster games.

I'd say there's clearly reasons why the 0 figure came up. Likely that the AFL local derby was on or some other big event. I'd like to hear the high figures in Adelaide and Perth. Or atleast the avg's to see just how popular RL is. But all the same it is popular, at least with many expats, as marngrook is in Sydney.
No. Many people watch SoO just because it's seen as an event. Most people who watch it wouldn't even like the sport of rl, otherwise they would also tune into the grand final which does not happen. SoO 3 was something like the 19th most watched program in Adelaide on Wednesday night and Channel 9 runs at a loss to show it, just as they do the grand final. This is why we do not see the pre game crap here as well as the post game... 9 don't want to run with the low rating league for too long here as it's not as popular as sitcoms like two and a half men etc.
Just when i thought spewie could not get any more stupid, he puts his foot in it again.......
