They need to. Kids supporting the Titans will have limited TV opportunities unless they have FTA. The Broncos have got QLD FTA TV covered for 5 years.

Eat your sour grapes bitches!

Yes eat our 1.275million......
AFL deal worth 1.250m - 400million to keep up expansion clubs and it comes out to 850million....
NRL 1.275million ------>AFL 850million..
Raider sure looks to be the winner in all this. =D>

The offer goes up to high school students. As if they'll go to games with their parents!

800m, the AFL got 800m did they?
Talk about counting your chickens!
The NZ rights may not get the total youre thinking, nor could the internet rights. We got 1.253 too, plus a fantastic TV deal, all without NZ!

Some more NRL fans from LU telling us what they really think of the neew deal:
AFL got more money, more FTA games, all games simulcast, and their own foxtel channel.
And you somehow think we got a better deal.
Our code, fans and sponsors got royally bent over.
"We just bought the game."
Yup, that says it all really. Channel 9 can get f**ked.
i reckon cows and titans going to get 4 games max on fta, 2 when they play the broncos and 2 when they play each other....
And? Seriously, so f**king what? What does that prove, exactly? Our games are shorter. Thats what that proves. Yay, we get more money per minute of football.
They got everything they wanted. Everything. They got 4 games on FTA throughout the whole country, plus every club going into its home market on FTA, every expansion market, all but 1 game live, a dedicated channel on fox featuring every game live and in HD, the best that simulcasting and multichanneling has to offer the viewer, from the casual watcher to the hardcore fan. They got the very best of everything. For the fans of the code. Not the broadcaster, the fans.
They got that, AND $250 million more. How anyone can claim this deal is better or even close to the AFL deal is mind boggling.
They have more money to spend on development and marketing of the game. Their clubs have better access to FTA and thus stronger pull to sponsors and fans...
AFL should be upset that they got a bigger deal whilst maintaining control over scheduling, having 6 of 9 games in the day time, and no Monday night games...
How do they cope?
and it goes on and on and on and............

Doc is saying on LU that Fox has some of the internet rights and he is not sure what the rest could be sold for. He also said that the NZ rights probabaly would be closer to 100 million over 5 years. So the deal will be 1.15 + according to him.

TLPG my dad came and watched nearly every game I played and we went to the footy together not only into my teens but way past that. Maybe you missed out on that. Did your father not take you to the footy, wasn't the bond of going to the game together and rooting for your team and booing the refs bad decisions together there. Didn't you have that in common with your dad? If you didn't that is real sad.

That was when we were kids, Mark. Those days are gone. Check the calendar - it's 2012, not 1980.
Like Xman said - lame.

The AFL have 18 teams to the NRL's 16 right? Two of the AFLs comp require ridiculous amounts of support. Team for team the NRL deal is way more lucrative. I just hope they're clever and build the grass roots with the bucketloads of extra cash the nrl has than the AFL. And i certainly hope they dont throw money at countries which have little chance of taking to the game. AFL in China anyone?

I;ll never forget the site nsw put up in here referring to the AFL in china. It'd been subsumed by a chinese porn site

ohhhhohohohhooooo the irony.
