Newtown used to get crowds of up to 2000 in the NSW Cup a few years back
certainly to their clashes for the Frank Hyde Cup with Norths & Balmain
I remember Shell Harbour got 7,000 to a Jim Beam Cup game when Wendell Sailor played for them
lots of good support at the tiers below the NRL

enough to be in the papers? The WAFL and SANFL are still popular state leagues with substantial followings. It's all AR's, and it's very strong. Far stronger than just the AFL.
of course you twat
every paper in NSW & QLD give big coverage to their local leagues
RL is far stronger then just the NRL too

back in the late 1970's they used to get crowds of 25,000 plus to the Newcastle Grand Final
not bad for a little country comp

Evidence, or I'm officially calling BS on this one!

Newcastle still get over 20k for their GF and the Qld cup can get some big crowds too if the powerhouse old teams are playing.
The lower League comps in England are the same.
