You bring up a good point though. Most states were lower and Melbourne was higher. Funny that. Most interstate teams were out of the eight and most of the better teams were from Melbourne. Looks like your comments are **** as usual.

What's the storms excuse for continuing crap figures? Top of the ladder, new stadium. Why the failure to "launch"?

You always knew there would be a reflex response around expansion teams although I think only one played last year. The idea that the Suns could drop the whole AFL average by 6% was a bit of a giveaway that it could not be them unless they got "negative" crowds to their games.

So in NSW/QLD the AFL average crowds fell,membership fell and TV ratings fell yet they talk such a good game.

Even with the Suns getting sellout crowds the AFL would drop 4% because the GC stadium capacity is only 25k.
Crowds in Brisbane are firmly linked to ladder position.
When the Lions outdrew the Broncos for 5 or 6 years they were near the top of the ladder.
With the introduction of the GC and GWS football crowds will start to average out in the longterm
except for Perth where most games are sellouts or near sellouts.

Topper on the basis that any data from an NRL will be rejected as heresy by you - go to the AFL site that in great detail shows the average(significant) decline in AFL crowds for NSW/QLD and you will also see the 5.8% drop in the overall AFL average crowd.

It's laughable that any NrL supporter would question crowds for expansion teams that are actually above your leagues average, and by quite a distance for the swans.

And the QLD teams were in the bottom few on the ladder in an expandsion market. The swans are building again after a few years as also rans.

Seriously boys, claim all the crap you like about AFL in Qld and NSW. But wait until these teams are at least competitive before you celebrate their demise. Otherwise every bit of reduction in crowds and ratings can justifiably be attributed to poor performing teams in fickle markets.

When either team drops to home crowds of 10k or less ill be worried. Now why does that number sound familiar? :D

There is the second "standard" AFL response ie the "fickle" markets. It is the supporters - those QLDers and NSW peoples fault. They dont seem to be "fickling" rugby league.

the suns didn't sellout one game all year .... but so what anyway

a steady decline down to a tad less then 30K in a few years I'd say ... the boat has sailed on expansion in NSW & QLD , its failed ... all 4 of the teams in these states with a combined average of about 60K

Not to mention the inherent issue of AFL crowd averages still way above that of NRL averages.

Average crowd numbers that have reduced less than 1% while all your your competition has lost 6-10% says we are loyal.

AFL have new teams plus play more often in new locations, yet still more than double the NRL's average.
